Encircled by her family with love, Angelica “Angy” Maria Chalpeño Martinez returned to her Father in Heaven Sunday, November 28, 2021. She passed peacefully at St. David’s South Medical Center in Austin, Texas following complications from the coronavirus.
Angelica was born July 10, 1970 in Cuautla Morelos, Mexico to Tomas Chalpeño Aguilar and Maria Guadalupe Martinez Cortez. Her childhood was spent with her siblings, whom she adored. At age 14, she began working to help support her family, and when life took her away from her hometown, she would often return to visit, bringing gifts and sharing stories.
After moving to Austin, Texas, Angelica completed her formal education and took on several occupations over the years, each demonstrating her passion for service and bringing out the best in others. Of her many skills and talents, she was an exceptionally gifted teacher, especially with children, all of whom she loved as her own. More recently, Angelica had shifted her focus to helping adults as well, having obtained a life coaching certificate with JMT.
Despite her many professional accomplishments, being a mom to her two sons, Olsen and Edson, was her greatest pride and joy. While they were growing up, Angelica could be found anywhere from the homework table to the paintball course to the gun range, and everywhere in between, filling both roles of mother and father. She loved their adventures together as much as their quiet times at home.
In her rare free moments, Angelica was a voracious reader and life long learner. She consistently sought to learn new skills and to fine tune talents. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she loved dancing, gardening and fine art. She was an avid artist, with a deep love for nature - the common subject of her work.
As a woman of tremendous faith, Angelica loved her Savior Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and dedicated much of her time to serving in the Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and Single Adult organizations, in addition to ministering to anyone in need of a hug or a delicious meal. She loved the scriptures and lived her testimony in word and deed.
Angelica is survived by her mother, sons Olsen Linares Chalpeño (Ionela) and Edson Linares Chalpeño, sisters Veronica Chalpeño, Carolina Chalpeño, Rosario Martinez, Leticia Martinez, brothers Mario Chalpeño, Fernando Martinez, nieces Angelica Lopez, Elizabeth Chalpeño, Briza Chalpeño, Coral Chalpeño, Maritza Chalpeño, Jazmin Torres, Joseline Torres, Denisse Torres, Sophie Torres, Karen Ramirez, Mariana Ramirez, Diana Chalpeño, nephews Erik Torres, Pablo Ramirez, Mario Chalpeño, Lalo Chalpeño, William Chalpeño, and grandson Leo Vince Chalpeño. She has been reunited in heaven with her sister Maria del Rosario “Chayito” Chalpeño Martinez.
Family and friends are invited to services to be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 12001 Bee Caves Road, Bee Cave, Texas. Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., and the memorial service will start at 10:30 a.m. Special thanks to the caring staff at St. David's South Medical Center and to the many friends who have touched Angelica’s life for good over the years. In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest a contribution to Latter-Day Saint Charities.
