Ann Marie Kilkenny Elbert of Seattle, Washington passed away on July 4, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born August 6, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky to Leota and Bernard Kilkenny. Their family lived in Baltimore, Maryland and Lexington, Kentucky.
Ann graduated from Lexington Catholic High School in 1957 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Kentucky in 1963. Ann worked as a teacher at St. Peter School in Lexington and was a substitute teacher for Fayette County Public Schools. She was passionate about knitting, needlepoint and quilting. For many years, she led a group that hand crafted a quilt for the annual Mid Knight Stakes auction benefiting Lexington Catholic High School. This was a year-round effort and the source of much enjoyment.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Leo Elbert and sister Mary Jane Cantrill. Ann is survived by her son Donald, her daughter-in-law Shelly, grandsons Alex and Ryan, her brother John Kilkenny and his wife Pat, sister-in-law Nancy Jackubiak, and many nieces and nephews.
Ann and her husband Don enjoyed traveling the world to visit their son. From South Bend to Paris, London, Austin, Pasadena, and Zurich, they were always in search of a restaurant looking out over a body of water where they could spend the afternoon sipping iced tea.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
