Art was born on September 16, 1960 in Austin to Jerry and Sandra Allison. He grew up playing football and baseball, and working on cars with his brother. After losing his father at an early age, he stepped into the role of man of the house to care for his mother and younger brother. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1985 with a degree in Business. Having been influenced by his father’s Air Force service and career at the Cessna Aircraft Company, Art naturally went to work for the one and only Southwest Airlines. He started on the ramp and worked his way up through multiple leadership positions as base manager, regional manager and eventually retiring as Director of Cargo and Ground Operations. While at Southwest, Art met Mary, his wife of 28 years, and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Maddie and Amanda. Art attributed his fondest and most enduring memories and friendships to Southwest Airlines. He had a strong LUV for the company and all his CoHearts and they had a mutual LUV and respect for him.
After retiring from Southwest, Art started his own building and construction business in Austin. He spent much of his time and energy caring for and supporting his family. When not working he enjoyed hunting, fishing and supporting the University of Texas Longhorns. He relished time at home on the lake with countless gatherings with family and friends, including the annual Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve parties where he conducted epic fireworks shows. Art was one of the most hard-working people you would ever meet and was a very giving soul. He never met a stranger, put people at ease with his relaxed manner, and was famous for his signature bear hugs.
Art is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Madeline and Amanda Allison; mother, Sandra Allison-Holt; brother, Larry Allison and wife, Tink; and stepsister, Kathy Holt.
He is preceded in death by his father Jerry Allison, and stepfather Howard Holt.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 21st at 3:00 p.m. at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway, TX.
For those desiring to do so, the family suggests making a contribution to the cancer association of their choice.
