Billy “Bill” Eugene Dutton, a long time resident of the Memphis, Tennessee/Olive Branch, Mississippi area, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went home to be with our Lord, Friday, May 31, 2019 in Austin, Texas. He was 84.
Bill was born on September 25, 1934 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma to Russell and Jessie Mae Dutton. He had one brother Keith and one sister Jody. He grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma where he graduated from Shawnee High School. Bill met the love of his life, Mary Sue Chittum, in 8th grade. They married in Shawnee, Oklahoma on June 12, 1952. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2018.
Bill started out in the oil field business then sold Yellow Page ads for Southwestern Bell – but he became a true entrepreneur in 1974 when he acquired his own sewer and drain cleaning company, which relocated him and his family to Memphis, Tennessee. He was President of the Home Builders Association in Memphis and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He retired in 2002.
Bill was passionate about playing golf, fishing, camping—from a tent to a 5th wheel to a motor home. He loved to travel, watch sports and play dominos. As an avid golfer, Bill proudly scored three hole-in-ones. During the course of Bill’s life, many of his golfing buddies would call him Puttin’ Dutton. Family and friends would lovingly call him Billy Bob. The description of Bill given by his many friends and family was his warm smile and his recognizable belly laugh.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue, daughter Debbie Timmons and husband Buster of Columbiana, Alabama, daughter Sherry Reichert and husband Steve of Austin, Texas, and daughter Lori Markle and husband Ken of Oxford, Mississippi. Bill “Pipa” and Sue “Mima” have seven grandchildren, Kyle, Greer, Graham, Karli, Dalton, Reed and Cole, three great grandchildren, Cecilia, Mila and Hayes. He has numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Keith.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel. Immediately following theservice a Reception/Open House will be held at Steve & Sherry Reichert's Home, 3220 Scenic Overlook Trail, Austin, Texas 78734.
