

Robert J. Underwood (Bob) of Lakeway, TX, passed peacefully on Sept. 6, 2014, at Christopher House in Austin, TX. His wife of 50 years, Patsy, son, Randy of Lakeway, and daughter, Amy of Grand Prairie, were by his side. Complications from liver failure took him too soon.
His eventful and happy life began on Oct. 23, 1937. He was the last of 8 children born to Vernice Edna and John Washington Underwood. He will be greeted in heaven by both parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters as well as 2 nephews, 2 nieces, and many friends.
He was graduated from Carter Riverside HS in Ft. Worth and was a proud alumnus of Texas A&M University where he earned a BS degree in architectural construction. After graduation from Texas A&M, he took a commission in the US Army as a lieutenant. He was active duty in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. He served proudly and was promoted to captain before resigning to serve in the reserves until 1969.
In 1963 he met Patsy Chenault of Ft. Worth. They were married on July 10, 1964. They moved to Dallas where he worked as a young engineer for Bridge Builders, Inc. They have 2 children, Randal David and Amy Suzanne.
In 1976 he took his family to Saudi Arabia where he was employed to supervise the construction of a railroad bridge near Dhahran. During their 2 years in Saudi Arabia, the family had great adventures traveling to many countries.
Upon their return to the US, Bob resumed employment with Bridge Builders. He continued to advance in his career as an engineer and estimator and retired as a VP of Estimating at JD Abrams in Austin, TX.
After retirement he volunteered for the City of Lakeway for various civic and community events. He also used his knowledge and skills to assist in the construction of bridges and structures for Lakeway Parks and Recreation.
He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his golfing buddies. He attended Lakeway Church and was a member of the Aggie Club of Lakeway. He was beloved and admired by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at 1:00 pm in Lakeway, TX, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 S. A viewing will precede the service from noon to 1:00 pm.
An additional viewing will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014, from 11:30-12:30 in Dallas, TX, at Jeter & Son Funeral Home, 4811 W. Illinois. This viewing will be followed by an interment ceremony at 1:15 pm at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mtn. Creek Pkwy.
