
My prayers are with your family at this time Brad.   You were always somebody I so enjoyed working with back in the day.  I hope we see each other again someday.  You have graduated to all life has to offer.   I had fun being friends.



Brad was a great competitor. I had to play against him several years and he was one of those guys you wanted on your team instead of playing against! He just found a way to win. He always displayed good sportsmanship in either winning or losing and realized that it was just a game, don't take yourself too seriously. Brad never met a stranger. He was able to strike up a conversation with anyone with his down to earth personality. My prayers go out to Michelle and the entire family. 



I was so very saddened to hear the news of Brad's passing.  He will always have a special place in my heart..............he was the first real boyfriend I had.  Although it was brief, I had so much fun when I was with him.  I remember going to watch him play baseball and seeing him smile out there on the field.  He even got me to skip school one day to go out to Pancho's for lunch!  We never kept in touch but I always wondered how he was doing and were he was in his life.  Reading all the wonderful letters from friends and family, I can see that he was the same Brad I knew in high school........and he will truly be missed by all.  My thoughts and prayers will be with his family during this difficult time.  My father past away three years ago on September 14............I will always keep that day in mind and remember Brad with good thoughts and memories.

There is little that I can say that can ease your suffering - many have said that the worst thing in life is to have a child go before you and I can't argue with them.  I'm sorry and I hurt for you and I just hope that you can take solace that you have many, many friends and loved ones who are here for you and always will be.

I've been thinking a lot about Brad and remembering him.  And, it's hard not to think about his smile, his laugh, and his cocky way about making his way around.  He had the gift of being able to get along with most everyone he came in contact with and no one dislike him.  Most of what I remember about Brad is from our high school days-him strutting down the hallways between classes, making jokes or cracking well intentioned insults with everone he passed, or raising a calf for FFA, or explaining some new detail regarding teh car he was driving.  But, chiefly what I will always remember about Brad was our time playing baseball together.  Brad was the embodiment of the "scrappy" ballplayer.  Maybe he wasn't teh greates and he didn't have the most generous of physical gifts but he wasn't too shabby, either and we played in a fairly competitive district, maybe even to toughest in the state.  He hustled and made plays and battled and never quit and that means a lot and has a carryover effect on those around him.  Since he was always next to me at second, we became pretty good at knowing the balls that each other could and could not get to and that gave us a little advantage here and there.  Through the years, most every time I watched Craig Biggio play, I thought about Brad - Biggio wa just a more talented version of Brad but no one could ever match Brad's spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.

I miss him and I know you always will.  Maybe like me, you will always see Brad as that young man kicking the infield dirt, talking up a storm, and smiling-always smiling.  And, always with the sun on his face.  That's how I remember Brad.

One other thing: I have always wanted to tell you what it meant to me to know you were there for us all of these years.  I know Brad felt it but I wanted for you to know that I always remember you being there for both then and also through the years since.  Though I have done a poor job of show it,  I've always thought about how much you meant to me and how important your support meant.  Your example has made me do the same with young people I come in contact with today and try to show an interest in them and let them know that I am there for them.  Thank you always.

My Brother Brad, By Tammy Thomas

     Brad is 6 years older than me.  My first memories of him are endless days spent watching him practice and play sports, mainly baseball.  I grew up as a spectator at the Oaks dad's club baseball fields.  Our dad was his coach and our mom and sister never missed a game.  They always won and he always made the all star team.  He played right up to his senior year of high school at jJersey Village H.S. many of his team mates' parents are still friends with our parents today. 

     Whatever he watched on TV, I watched.  I remember Johnny Quest, Clutch Cargo, Hogan's Heroes and mainly Houston Wrestling.  I was his guiney-pig.  He perfected moves on me known as: The Claw, The Inside-Step Over Toe Hold, The Sleeper Hold, and The Baby Bear.
     
     In High School he was extremely popular and had lots of girlfriends.  He was president of FFA (Future Farmers of America).  He used to exercise his calves by tying them to the tractor.  Taught me to drive the tractor, and then attempted to give me the job of exercising the animals.

     Athletically Brad was naturally talented and coordinated.  He was not only a great baseball player and recreational softball player later in Austin, he taught himself to play tennis and routinely beat people who had been taking lessons their entire life.   He wa a self-taught expert water skiier and snow skiier.  When I was in college he would fly to wherever I was snow skiing with friends to join us.  He slept on the floor many times.  Once he broke his right arm.  We went bowling and he still beat me, using his left hand.

     Brad taught me how to country & western dance, how to throw and catch a softball, how to slalom water ski, and how to whistle using my pinkies.

     Brad was a fanatical sports fan of just about every kind of sport you could watch on a college or professional level.  It was not wise to bet against him on a trivia question involving sports of any kind.  He knew which country was winning the curling competition at the olympics.  He was a pretty sore loser when it came to the Texas Longhorns.  Lucky for him, they seldom did.

     This past summer he taught my kids his nephew Hayden how to knee-board behind the boat and he taught his neice Erin how to slalom.  They spent 10 day there and neither wanted to come home.  Hayden was so proud that Brad let him take his baths in Lake Austin.  Brad also taught Hayden how to yo-yo last year.  I had forgotten how good he used to be at that, too, as a kid.

     Brad became a great cook over the years.  He called mom for advice, and eventually learned how to make her famous chicken and dressing, his favorite food.  Brad also had great respect for our dad.  He knew he could rely on dad to help him fix anything around the house from plumbing to boat docks to airconditioning.  They were close.

     To my kids he was Uncle Brad.  Hew was there when both of them were born.  He never ever missed a Birthday, Halloween, or Christmas.  He was at almost every gymnatics and cheer competition Erin had (in and out of town) and was a big fan of Hayden's football and baseball teams. 

     My baby sitter quit this year the week before school started.  Brad became my child care worker.  For two weeks he took care of them for me while I went to work.  My mom said he was excited to do this, he already had his bag packed waiting for me to call.

     We are grateful that we had him for almost 53 years but it is still so hard to believe and accept that he is gone.  He was my best friend, and he always had my back.  He was a happy positive person despite his health problems.  I know he is looking down on us, wanting us not to be sad.  We will miss him and remember him and keep him in our hearts.



Michelle - I just heard about Brad tonight.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Please know that your friends are with you and stay strong.  If there is anything we can do, just call.  Take care - Rosemary



My dearest Michelle my condolences to you from Eddie and Dylan also. I first knew about Brad when he was inquiring about your dating status when we worked at HEB#9 many, many years ago. He was a great guy, a genuine man. He will be greatly missed. Love you and hope to see you soon.



UNCLE BRAD! Oh, how i loved spending time with you, Erin, and your wonderful family! And don't forget Harley! I'll miss you! You always had a good smile on your face when i saw you! Everybody loves and miss your infectious personality, your laugh, and jokes! Well bud, I will truly miss your GENUINE personality. Brad was a TRUE to the bone LONGHORN fan. We attended MANY,MANY Longhorn games, football and basketball. Our BEST and FAVORITE game to attend every time they were in town was the UT/OK basketball game. Brad I miss you. I am just glad that the last time I saw you face to face I was able to let you know that I loved you. You were a TRUE friend. ALWAYS there to lend an ear when thing weren't good on my end. I thank GOD to have made friends with you and Michelle, hahaha. GODSPEED my brother. We will meet again some day and when we do the heavens better be ready for the two ROWDIEST Longhorn pals they will ever see. HOOK 'EM HORNS!!

I went to Jersey Village HIgh School with Brad and I sure hate to hear this.  He was such a happy, woderful, awesome friend!!  He will surely be missed!
When I think back to our high school days I can remember Brad always having a smile on his face and making us all laugh!!   My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, and I thank my God in all my remembrance of him, MR BRAD CARGILL, MY DEAR FRIEND!!!!



I am so sorry to hear about Brad.  We have been friends for over 30 years.  He was such a fierce competitor and natural athlete.  We played hundreds of softball games together and spent countless days on the lake.  He was a great friend and I will truly miss him.  



I am sorry to hear about this. I went to school with Brad at Jersey Village and remember the good guy he was. I did not know him well and have not seen him since that time but we were all part of a family there at JV.

 I was Brads neighbor for about 8  years.  We took many boat rides together and he let me enjoyed his boat dock at will.  Brad let me live the water front life style even though I had no water front. He had a big heart and liked to see people have fun at  his place on Lake Austin.  To know B-RAD was to love B-RAD.  He will be missed. God Bless

Brad and I went to high school and played ball together. He was a pretty darn good ball player, but what I remember most was his spirit. Brad kept us loose and always laughing. Brad was a charachter...and the world needs more of them. He will be missed.

Dear Michelle and Family,
I remember Brad though Michelle's faith story and in talking w/her by phone, at CHRP meetings by phone and eating out.  I was always struck by the light in her eyes or the lilt in her voice when she spoke of Brad. From her accounts it as if the two delighted in each other... that Brad wasn't just a good husband, he was a great person. He delighted in her, he supported her endeavors, and he fed her spiritually. When I opened up this memory book I saw Brad skiing, hopefully being pulled by the Rinker we sold the two of them. Tony was so impressed with Brad's spirit that when he came home that day  from the Marina he said, "Kinda feel like we should have just given it to him he was so personable!"  
There is no explaination as to why angels  like Brad come into our lives, touch down lovingly only to leave us all too soon. The only way I have ever been able to wrap my mind about this is to feel that God sends us these souls briefly so we are able to witness a glimpse of heaven on Earth...



 



My deepest sympathies go to the entire family. I was Brad's high school coach and have nothing but fond memories of my time with him. I am very saddened by this.

My favorite memory of Brad is that he was always with us @ Dallas night club, you let us all dance with him & I know I had a blast!!!  Also hanging out @ the lake the few times I made it out there.
