Brent Wayne Thompson

Brent Wayne Thompson was born on May 11, 1973, in Lubbock, Texas. He was adopted the next day by his mother, Gloria Gale Thompson, and then adopted in 1983 by his father, Kenneth Wayne Thompson. The one characteristic that defined Brent throughout his life was his wonderful laugh; anyone who heard it couldn’t help but smile.

Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Brent’s lifelong passion for skateboarding started in middle school and only grew from there. He graduated from the Texas Military Institute in 1992. After a few years, he moved to Austin, Texas, the place he called home for the rest of his life.

He married Stephanie Mercure and welcomed his first daughter, Tahlia Noelle Thompson, on December 17, 1999. Nearly three years later, he welcomed his second daughter, Brenna Nicole Thompson, on August 15, 2002. He always said that in his life, his two girls were the greatest gifts of love he ever received. He was so proud of their strength, accomplishments, sensitivity, and love of family.

Brent built a 16-year career at Bicycle Sport Shop in downtown Austin. He managed the sprawling inventory and was known by customers as a highly knowledgeable, friendly, and trustworthy salesman. He also participated in mountain biking competitions on behalf of Bicycle Sport Shop, achieving the impressive rank of semi-pro.

One of Brent’s favorite roles after leaving Bicycle Sport Shop was working for Mecum Auctions, traveling with the group around the country to help host the world’s largest collector car auctions. He loved traveling and saw an array of places around the world, from the coasts of Maui and Bermuda to the centuries-old buildings in England and Europe.

Brent grew up with dogs all of his life, but none compared to his all-time favorite dog, Dingo, followed closely by his second-favorite dog, Kyra. Dingo was always by his side, a true display of a "man's best friend."

His most recent project, Lizard Ditch Skate Park in Austin Texas, is a lasting monument to his passion for skating. He was the driving force in building the park, and it provides a place where others in the skating community can gather to hone their skills and share their love for the sport.

Brent is loved by so many, and we will deeply miss him, including his wonderful adventurous spirit. Whenever you think of him, even amidst the sadness, think about his iconic laugh and your day will always be brighter.
