Catherine Ann Stevens-Oxer, 72, of Lakeway, TX, a retired senior financial executive, died suddenly and very unexpectedly on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Dell-Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX, as the result of an acute cerebral hemorrhage. She was born May 14, 1952, in Fort Worth, TX, to Harold Odell Stevens and Jean Hamilton (Plunkett) Stevens. She is preceded in death by her parents, her uncle, Bobby Joe Stevens, and her cousin, Michelle Lee (Stevens) Williams. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Paul Daniell Oxer of Lakeway; brother, James Randall Stevens and his wife Rita of Fort Worth; cousin, Michael Joe Stevens and his wife Lisa of Midland; and aunt, Ouida Jane (Taylor) Stevens of Fort Worth.
Cathy earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Georgia State University, and an MBA in finance later from the University of Dallas. She retired in late 2013 from The Coca-Cola Company after 30 years in senior financial management, holding positions in Finance Leadership at the company’s Atlanta headquarters, and in Financial Planning & Analysis and Supply Chain at Coca-Cola North America and Minute Maid.
Cathy adored her Shelties, lavishing care and attention on them, and was an avid gardener who grew plants and flowers inside and out, loving nothing more than working in her gardens on a warm, clear day with the Shelties at her side. Her talent as an interior designer and meticulous attention to detail made each of her homes a peaceful refuge in Bedford, Sugar Land and Lakeway, TX, and Smyrna, GA. As a creative decorator, she took great joy in each one being exceptionally elegant each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Old movies were her favorite, especially dog stories like all the Lassie movies; enduring holiday classics such as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “The Shop Around the Corner”; and expansive epics including “Giant,” “The Godfather,” and “Gone with the Wind.” Cathy also enjoyed finishing off the afternoon with a classic margarita at 5:00 that John Paul prepared, as she said, “heavy on the fresh lime and light on the sugar.”
In her advance directive, Cathy wrote, “I want my family and friends to know this: If there’s no way out and I can’t communicate, just let me go as gently and as naturally as possible. Then do what makes you happy.” Her memory will live in those who knew her and felt the intensity of her approach to living as an unmatched life partner, a loving family member, a devoted friend, and a dedicated career employee.
A memorial service and interment of ashes will be at 3:00 PM Friday, October 4, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue in Fort Worth. A reception at a local restaurant will follow with all family and friends invited and welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to one of the many charities Cathy supported, especially The Humane Society, The Wounded Warrior Project, The Alzheimer’s Association, and The Parkinson’s Foundation.
