It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cliff Tangedahl, who left us peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mildred, and two older brothers, Maynard Tangedahl and Jack Tangedahl.
A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Cliff lived a full and joyful life over nearly a century of change. Yet, his values remained steadfast—family, kindness, and integrity were always his guiding principles, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Cliff was a loving father to his daughter, Lisa Trammell (Kelly), and son, Kenneth (K.C.) Tangedahl (Susan), and was an unwavering source of support and guidance throughout their lives. Cliff was a loving older brother to his sister, Susan Wells (Dan). He adored his five grandchildren— Shannon (Derek), Courtney, Kristen (Jacob), George (Mercedes) and Marina —and treasured every moment spent with them. His love expanded further with the arrival of his great-grandchild, Polly, whom he cherished deeply.
Cliff was born on November 12, 1934 in McAllen, Texas. Cliff grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and after high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital (VA) in Houston for over 30 years as a Biomedical Technician and in 2012, Cliff and Mildred relocated to Austin.
Cliff was a true outdoorsman at heart. He had a deep love for nature and wildlife and spent many of his days enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors, particularly fishing. His connection to nature was something he shared with those closest to him, teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild to appreciate the world around them.
But Cliff’s favorite activity was to be around people. He especially loved socializing with his neighbors in his community. His warm presence, easy smile, and natural ability to make others feel welcome and valued made him a beloved figure among family and friends. He was the type of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, and his genuine interest in others left a lasting impression. He had a knack for making people laugh, and his stories, often filled with humor and wisdom, will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to hear them.
A memorial service will be held in his honor, with the date and location to be determined, and family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and the many ways he touched their hearts.
Though Cliff is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the memories he created, the love he shared, and the countless lives he impacted. May he rest in peace, knowing he leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love for his family and the people who knew him.
