With heavy hearts and deep love, we remember a beautiful and courageous woman who faced her cancer diagnosis the same way she lived her life—with strength, grace, and quiet determination. She faced every challenge with bravery and inspired those around her not only through her resilience, but through her selflessness. Dianne never sought recognition and always put others first, finding true joy in caring for and supporting the people she loved.
More than anything, Dianne loved her family. Her four children and granddaughter were the center of her world, and she showed her love in countless everyday ways—by showing up, cheering the loudest, offering steady encouragement, and making sure everyone felt cared for. Her kindness, warmth, and laughter brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.
Seventeen years ago, she lost the love of her life, her beloved husband, David. Though the loss was profound, their bond never faded. She carried his memory with her always, speaking of him often with deep affection. The love they shared remained a guiding light in her life.
Throughout her battle with cancer, Dianne showed remarkable courage and resilience. Even on the hardest days, she continued to give love, strength, and compassion to those around her. Her deep faith in the Lord brought her peace and comfort, and her steady spirit was a source of strength for her family and friends.
Dianne worked in a variety of fields, including administration, insurance, and retail, and excelled in each of them. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication, and she was a dear and beloved coworker whose kindness left a lasting impression. She also had a creative spirit and a gift for sewing, often designing and making beautiful pieces for others—an extension of her generous heart. She embraced life with energy and determination, even winning a water skiing competition in Kansas, a reflection of her adventurous spirit and hard work ethic.
She leaves behind her four loving children and her cherished granddaughter, along with extended family and many dear friends who will miss her deeply and treasure the memories they shared.
Dianne was also a devoted animal lover; her pets brought her constant companionship and joy. Brinklee, especially, will miss her gentle feet rubs and the extra treats that always came his way. She was unwavering in her support of her family, rarely missing a special event or game, always showing up with pride and encouragement.
Dianne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Mark Rasmusson; her parents, Donald Theodore and Mary Holmberg; her brother, Donald Dean Holmberg; and her sister-in-law, Mary Welty.
She is survived by her children, Dena Sooby, Michael Sooby, Kelsey Rasmusson, and Devin Rasmusson; and her beloved granddaughter, Parker Powell, all of Austin. She is also survived by her sister, Debbie Myers and husband Joe, and nephew Josh of Manhattan; her sister-in-law, Colleen Holmberg, nephews Kirk and Kyle, and niece April of Manhattan, Kansas; her brother-in-law, Rick Rasmusson and wife Michelle of Las Vegas; her brother-in-law, Grant Welty, nephew Preston, and niece Olivia of Humble, Texas; her best friend, Sue Bath-Dunn and husband Tom Dunn of Manhattan, Kansas; as well as many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Though her fight on this side of Heaven has ended, her love lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. We find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord, reunited with those she loved. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
You took a big part of our hearts with you, Mom. We will forever love and miss you. Love you more, to the moon and back.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Chapel on the Riverbend Campus at 11:00 a.m. on April 18, celebrating Dianne’s life.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
