

Doris was born on February 1, 1938, in Uhland, Texas, to Margaret (Weisser) and Eugene Wranitzky. She attended grade school in Uhland, Texas and graduated from high school in Kyle, Texas. Doris graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, in 1959 with a degree in Home Economics. Doris married Alton Robert Hagedorn on August 22, 1959 and they began their lives together in Austin. Doris worked at the Southern Union Gas Company, supporting the family while Alton finished his PhD at The University of Texas. In 1964 Doris and Alton moved to Houston where Doris became an active member of the community. She was a longstanding member of the neighborhood Women's Club. She also enjoyed being a member of a women's bowling league with some of her best friends. Her Christian faith was exemplified through church membership. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane United Church of Christ where she enjoyed attending worship, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, participating in the Women's Fellowship and serving on the church council.
In 1997 Doris and Alton moved to Lakeway, Texas to enjoy the Texas Hill Country. Doris was an active member of the Lakeway Women's Club and the Dinner Club where she enjoyed a wonderful circle of friends who she treasured. Doris loved to volunteer her time to help others. She particularly enjoyed volunteering at Lakeway City Hall and The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, where she earned the title of "Docent" in 1998.
Doris was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed making clothes for her children as they were growing up. She also sewed for others, including making prom dresses, bridesmaid's dresses and doing all types of alterations. Doris' creativity was truly a gift. She enjoyed quilting. She made beautiful and one-of-a-kind baby quilts for special family and friends. She loved doing "projects" with her special grandchildren and great nephews. Doris had a green thumb. Her yard was decorated with native Texas plants. She always had a beautiful garden and greenery inside the home as well. Doris loved the outdoors. She always enjoyed camping, boating and waterskiing. The family spent many summers at Lake Somerville where Doris spent many hours in the water teaching her children, niece, nephews and many others to ski. Doris was a remarkable cook. Alton always said he loved to eat anything she cooked. She loved to try new recipes, always looking to enhance the dining experience. Those who know her best, will always remember her chocolate chip cookies, peach and strawberry preserves and her holiday stuffing.
Doris is survived by Alton and their children Karen Denise Hagedorn of Angola, Africa and Deanna Lynn Kanady and her husband, Mark of Flower Mound, Texas. Also, her sisters Olga Jean Collier of Uhland, Texas, and Mary Louise Anderson and her husband, Johnny of Lakeway, Texas. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister- in-law, Erwin and Bobby Jean Hagedorn; nieces and nephews Sandra and Steve Jones, Scott and Vikki Hagedorn, John and Jennifer Anderson, Joel and Jennifer Anderson, Kay and Wayne Lewis; great nieces and nephews Kelly Hohertz , Matthew Jones, Hunter Anderson, Chase Anderson, August Anderson and many other loving relatives and special friends including Monica, Michael, Kinsey and Kimber Cation. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Margaret Wranitzky and her brother-in-law Jimmy Collier.
A memorial service to celebrate Doris' life will be held Sunday, December 2 at 2:00pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Event Center in Lakeway, Texas.
