She was born on September 19, 1945, in Syracuse, New York, to Dr. Charles and Marcia (Weisburg) Hrissikopoulos, later spending her childhood years in California and Switzerland, learning to speak fluent French at an early age, and fostering a lifelong love for travel and culture. After returning to the states, Elaine grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, graduating with high honors from Mary Carroll High School and attending Del Mar College.
She transferred to the University of California at Berkeley, earning a graduate degree in Psychology and Special Education, but had to defer further studies after moving back to Corpus Christi to care for her family when her mother became ill. Elaine resumed her studies at the University of Texas at Austin, giving her time wherever she was needed. She worked with children in special education, as an assistant at the UT Department of Nutritional Sciences, the UT Department of Anthropology, and St. Elias Orthodox Church. But her favorite jobs were Mom to her son Manton and Yia Yia to her three treasured grandchildren.
Known as Eleni to her church community, she was incredibly passionate and dedicated to her faith. She started and led the Compassionate Friends ministry at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, organizing rides to church and food baskets from the Philoptochos ministry to those in need, and ensuring that all in her church family felt cared for. When she wasn’t at church, Elaine would be found studying ancient Greek, walking with her dog, swimming, and tending a field of wildflowers and plants in her front yard. She was proud of her heritage and spent much of her life traveling to Greece, baking traditional foods, and sharing stories with her family and friends.
Elaine will be remembered for her compassion, grace, strength, and ultimate devotion to God and her family. May her memory rest eternal.
Elaine was preceded in death by her previous husband Randolph Reece, her mother Marcia Lawson, and her father Dr. Charles Hrissikopoulos. She is survived by her son, Manton Reece (Traci), her brother Dr. Paul Hrissikopoulos (Rebecca), her sister Susan Sullivan (Craig), her grandchildren Alexandra, Meredith, and Julian, as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Trisagion with funeral services immediately following will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 14 St. Stephens School Rd S, Austin, TX 78746.
