Obituary of Eleanor Gammill Burke
Eleanor Gammill Burke, 88, passed at home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ross B. Burke; son and daughter-in-law Scott Burke and Meredith Burke, son and daughter-in-law Bryant Burke and Esther Burke, and son and daughter-in-law Ross “Slade” Burke and Tracy Burke; grandchildren Dustin Burke, Fiona Burke, Anna Burke, Josh Burke, Shane Burke, Dana Browne, Ann-Estelle Burke, Slade Burke, and Vivian Burke; and great grandchildren Colton Burke, Mason Burke, Luke Burke, Beau Browne, Teddy Browne, Chloe Burke and Sloan Burke. She was born on April 12, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Oscar “Elbridge” Gammill and Katherine F. Gammill. She graduated from Syracuse University. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who instilled a sense of “family” in the ones she loved. She loved to socialize with her family and friends and generously gave her time to others in need as a candy striper hospital volunteer and in other volunteer roles. She was an active member of P.E.O., which is a philanthropic organization that celebrates the advancement of women through education. She enjoyed antiquing, and she loved golfing and other recreational activities with her friends while she and her husband lived in the Bentwater community of Montgomery, Texas. She will always be remembered for her vibrant approach to life, always with a smile on her face and with love for others. Her family will always remember the summers in Skaneateles, New York. Her grandchildren will remember her butterfly kisses. Her family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Morning Glory, especially her loving caregivers Florence, Rose, Angela and Caroline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Eleanor’s name to P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312. A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 3-5 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway, Texas.
