A devoted servant of the Lord, wife, mother, and grandmother, she lived the majority of her life in Texas (Rising Star, Sunray, Austin), Arizona (Phoenix), and California (Lakewood Village, Thousand Oaks).
She married in June of 1953, while Jerry was serving in the Air Force and stationed at Coos Bay, Oregon. Together, they returned to Texas where she worked as a bookkeeper until Jerry graduated from the University of Texas. While in Austin, they began raising their three children before relocating to Phoenix, Arizona and Thousand Oaks, California, where Jerry ultimately retired.
Educating young minds was close to her heart. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years before becoming the church librarian. She took great pride in the appearance of her home; it was always spotless and ready to welcome guests. She loved reading, cross-word puzzles, working with numbers, and sewing, especially if it involved mending, patching, or making something for one of her grandchildren.
Although not an avid sports fan, she cheered for whichever team her family was routing for on TV. The outcome of the game mattered less to her than the time her family spent gathered together. She could be described as an easy going yet focused woman, whose calm demeanor resonated throughout all areas of her life. She was patient, kind-hearted, and always took an interest in what others had to say.
Ella leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Jerald ("Jerry") Patterson; children, Dan Patterson (wife Dawn) of Dallas, TX, Rebecca Dunn of Phoenix, AZ, and Tim Patterson (wife Shannon) of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Anthony Dunn, Kristopher Dunn, Jacqueline Patterson, Cozette Patterson, Wyatt Patterson, and Reagan Patterson; siblings Dorothy Jenkins (husband Nelson) of Mansfield, TX and Terry Ellis (wife Jan) of Weatherford, TX, along with countless nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will be at 10:00am with the service to follow at 11:00am on Friday, October 16, 2015, at The Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Boulevard, Lakeway, Texas 78734. Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to have charitable donations be made to The Gideons International to help spread the Word of God. Donations can be made in the memory of Ella Mae Patterson at the following website: https://www.gideons.org
