Emily was born on December 3, 1942. She spent most of her life in Michigan, where she built a successful career, raised her family, and formed lifelong friendships. Later in life, she moved to Texas to be closer to her family, cherishing the opportunity to spend more time with those she loved most.
Raised in the Presbyterian faith, Emily later embraced Catholicism after marrying the love of her life, John Mlodzik. Their shared faith became an important part of their marriage, providing comfort, strength, and guidance throughout the many joys and challenges they experienced together.
Emily was preceded in death by her beloved stepsons, David Mlodzik and John Mlodzik Jr., whom she loved as her own.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John Mlodzik; her beloved children, Steven Sutton and his wife, Jennifer Sutton, and her daughter, Suzanne Sutton; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Mlodzik, wife of her late stepson David Mlodzik; and her treasured grandchildren, Katy Mlodzik, Lexy Mlodzik, and Shayne Sutton, each of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy.
Emily lived a full and often challenging life, meeting every obstacle with remarkable courage, resilience, and determination. Throughout her professional career, she dedicated herself to the medical field, where her knowledge, compassion, and unwavering work ethic earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, clients, and friends alike. Her entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to establish and successfully operate her own medical consulting business, a testament to her intelligence, leadership, and perseverance. Whether in her career or personal life, Emily approached every challenge with confidence, integrity, and an enduring commitment to helping others.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Emily was deeply engaged in public service and civic life. She served as a campaign manager, contributed as a state convention delegate, and even ran for Michigan State Representative. Her involvement in politics reflected her strong sense of civic responsibility, her belief in community engagement, and her determination to be a voice for positive change. She approached this work with the same dedication and conviction that defined every other aspect of her life, always striving to make a meaningful difference.
While her professional accomplishments were significant, Emily considered one of her toughest jobs and greatest achievements to be raising her two children. As a single mother for many years, she worked tirelessly to provide them with love, stability, and opportunity in very challenging times. She balanced the demands of work and family with extraordinary devotion, demonstrating every day that strength is measured not only by success but by sacrifice and unconditional love.
Later in life, Emily faced significant health challenges, including the life-altering effects of a stroke. True to her resilient spirit, she met these obstacles with remarkable courage, determination, and grace. Rather than allowing her experiences to define her, she transformed them into an opportunity to help others.
As a volunteer mentor for fellow stroke survivors at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, Emily offered encouragement, understanding, and hope to those navigating their own recovery journeys. Her compassion, empathy, and selfless dedication touched countless lives. In recognition of her extraordinary service and unwavering commitment, she was honored as Volunteer of the Year on multiple occasions.
Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Emily found joy in cooking. Her kitchen was a place where love was expressed through home-cooked meals, family gatherings, and treasured recipes shared with those she cared about. She found happiness in bringing people together around the table, creating memories that will be cherished for years.
Emily will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for the way she lived—with grace, resilience, and generosity. She believed that every challenge could be met with courage, every setback with determination and through volunteering her experiences could help others cope and learn to live their lives again.
Her family and friends will forever remember her strength, her compassionate heart, her quiet wisdom, and her ability to inspire those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the family she loved so fiercely, the lives she touched through her kindness, and the example she set through a lifetime of perseverance.
Those who knew Emily will remember not only the challenges she overcame, but the grace with which she faced them, the meals she lovingly prepared, the wisdom she generously shared, and the enduring love she gave to her family. Her legacy is one of courage, compassion, and a life lived with purpose.
Emily's life reminds us that true success is not measured solely by accomplishments, but by the love we share, the hardships we overcome, and the lasting difference we make in the lives of others. Her memory will remain a blessing, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
