Florann was born on December 7th, 1943, in Arlington, MA, one of two daughters to Alson “Al” and Mary (Samourian) Ouzoonian. Florann lived in Boston, MA until 9 years of age, when her family sought out warmer weather in Miami, FL. She loved spending summers with her extended Armenian family in Cape Cod. She was a graduate of Coral Gables Senior High School, and then went on to obtain her Bachelor of Design from the School of Architecture (class of 66), at University of Florida. She was the first to graduate from college in her family and remained a very proud lifelong Gators fan.
After several short moves through Lancaster, PA and Princeton, NJ, she arrived in Madison, WI where she lived for 38 years. Florann was very active in the community and always on the go. She kept busy with volunteer work, including many years on the committee for Art in Bloom and the Madison Art League, and held positions as Treasurer and President in the early 90’s. She was also a volunteer usher at the theater, and Vice President of her condo association. Florann obtained her Realtor and Broker licensing in 1994 and was a Broker Associate with First Weber Group until her retirement in 2020. She loved using her design background to stage homes, and help clients envision the possibilities in their future homes.
Florann was very proud of her Armenian heritage, always cooking incredible Armenian recipes, and sharing the history of the Armenians with nearly everyone she knew. She loved shopping for a great bargain, spending time at her condo in Florida, Broadway musicals, the symphony, and international travel. Her trips to Turkey, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco with her daughter were some of her most cherished memories. Florann was also a very talented ballroom dancer, dancing at least five nights per week with her partner of 20 years, Carl Jesperson, who preceded her in death. Her favorite was the Argentine Tango. Florann was by far most proud of being a mother to her two children, and lived to spend time with them.
Anyone who knew Florann well, knew what a devoted mother and wonderful friend she was to so many. She was incredibly outgoing and social, and the type to become best friends with the stranger sitting next to her on an airplane, knowing their entire life story by the time they landed. She was incredibly sharp, often beating everyone at board games and game shows; you couldn’t get anything past her! Her smile would light up a room, and she was the epitome of class and was always so glamorous.
Florann is survived by her son Jamie (Andrea), daughter Ashley (Sean), sister Kerri (Jeff) Cline, first cousin William “Bill” O’Neil, three nieces, one nephew, many grand - nieces and nephews, cousins, and very dear friends from all over the world. She is further survived by her former spouse and father to her two children, James “Terry” Ament.
Heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Belmont Village Lakeway, Brookdale Lakeway Skilled Nursing, her therapy and medical team for all their efforts and compassionate care of Florann. You never gave up on her, and we will never forget that.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in Madison, WI at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or to Armenia Fund, Inc. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishlaketravis.com for the Ament family.
