G W Dickey Jr.

GW was born on October 7, 1941, in Jacksonville, Texas, to GW and Madeline Dickey. When he was five years old, his family moved to Texas City, where he lived until leaving for the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and went on to build a successful career in sales and sales management, a profession he enjoyed throughout his working life.

GW married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Ricketson, on June 9, 1962. The couple began their life together in Austin while G.W. completed his degree, and Sharon worked for the University of Texas. They later welcomed three children, Brent, Craig, and Jolie. Although GW's career took the family to several states over the years, their love for Austin eventually brought them back home to Westlake in 1983. GW and Sharon enjoyed traveling together and created many cherished memories along both coasts, with a special fondness for Galveston and the Texas Gulf Coast. They shared 41 wonderful years of marriage before Sharon's passing in 2003, a loss that was deeply felt by GW and his family.

From an early age, GW loved the outdoors, spending time quail hunting and fishing alongside his father and brother, Mike. Sports, however, were his lifelong passion. He played football, baseball, and basketball and later enjoyed coaching his sons while supporting his daughter in all her activities. GW remained active in seven-man football and both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball well into adulthood. He and Sharon rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on Brent and Craig in their athletic pursuits or support Jolie in cheerleading. His enthusiasm for supporting family continued into the next generation, as he proudly attended the activities and celebrated the accomplishments of his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Gpop and whom he adored.

A devoted Longhorn, GW was a University of Texas football season ticket holder for more than 35 years. He treasured Saturdays spent cheering on his beloved Longhorns and being part of the game-day tradition. He was also proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi.

Nine years after Sharon's passing, GW found love again and married Laura Edmonds on August 11, 2012. A fellow Austin native and University of Texas graduate, Laura shared GW's love of travel, family, and the Texas Gulf Coast. Together they enjoyed many trips to Galveston, where they spent time on the beach and enjoyed fresh Gulf seafood. They also cherished their dogs, who brought them great companionship and joy. GW and Laura were active members of Lakeway Church and enjoyed building a life filled with faith, family, and friendship.

GW is survived by his wife, Laura; his sons, Brent and Craig; his daughter, Jolie; his daughter-in-law, Susan; his son-in-law, Matt; his grandchildren, Catherine, Amanda, Austin, Sharon, and Jonathon; Laura's children, Zac Copp and Peyton and Richard Prati; Laura's grandchildren, Merrill, Annie, Hunter, and Hayes; his sister-in-law, Gloria Dickey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon; his parents, GW and Madeline Dickey; his brother, Mike Dickey; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dub and Gwen Ricketson; and numerous beloved relatives and friends.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Seton Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided during GW's final days.

GW was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved his family deeply, never missed an opportunity to support those he loved, and found joy in sports, travel, his dogs, the Gulf Coast, and his Longhorns. He will be remembered for his loyalty, sense of humor, generous heart, and the countless memories he created with family and friends.
