August 9, 1963 - January 3, 2024
Gary E. Davis was called Home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 after giving it a long Texas Fight. A servant of God, he faithfully served his family as a beloved husband to Laura, loving father to Austin and Jordan, and PawPaw to Jackson.
Born in Austin, Texas on August 9, 1963, Gary was the first child of Jack Edward and Betty Murphy Davis’s 54 years of marriage, and brother to Angela and Chris. Jack and Betty began their life together in Austin, Texas while Jack was putting himself through college at the University of Texas. They were married in 1962 at Hyde Park Baptist Church and began raising their family in Austin with the birth of their first child Gary Edward Davis.
Gary was an exuberant youth who loved playing sports like his father Jack, especially baseball. Gary’s love of the outdoors was fostered by days at the Murphy Ranch with his cousins in Georgetown. As a young man, you could always find him with friends hunting in South Texas, fishing bright blue waters, or cheering for the Longhorns.
Gary met the love of his life, Laura, at the Sonic in Georgetown, the summer after sophomore year in high school. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, they began their life together. Gary and Laura were united in marriage at Lois Perkins Chapel in Georgetown on November 5, 1988. Their wedding day was opening weekend for deer season and a gameday for Longhorn football, therefore Gary and all of his groomsmen were late to the nuptials.
In 1991 Gary and Laura’s first son Austin Edward was born in Houston, Texas, and Jordan Christopher, their second son, was born in Dallas in 1996. Gary was immensely proud of both sons: Austin becoming a Firefighter at Austin Fire Department, serving the community with unwavering strength, and Jordan graduating from the University of Texas, earning his Master's degree, and working with him.
Gary had a distinct larger than life personality that was undeniable and his charismatic nature touched countless lives. Often considered the ‘Life of the Party’, Gary had a passion for fun times with his good friends and family. Gary was also known as ‘The Rancher’, and especially loved spending time at the La Sendera Ranch and strived to ensure Davis family traditions were passed on to his family.
Gary's life was about serving his family and friends. He built a foundation of love for his family by being an inspiration, encouragement, and a rock. His integrity, determination and love for the outdoors will be carried forward through the generations he touched personally and professionally.
Gary fulfilled a lifelong family dream by founding Sendera Investment Group with his father Jack and brother Chris in 2001. A foundation built on conservative integrity and always doing the right thing, Gary drove excellence and held the bar high.
Prior to Sendera, Gary held the position of Vice President of Multifamily and Partner for The Archon Group in Dallas. Prior to working with Archon, he was with J.E. Roberts Companies in Houston, Texas. He earned a BBA in Real Estate from The University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and forever loved his Longhorns and long lived the Texas Fight.
Gary loved God and the scripture that grounded him most was John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Now Gary can rest in peace with the angels before him and his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his father Jack Davis; and mother in law, Carol Smith; Grandparents Travis and Velma Davis of Liberty, Texas; Grandparents Ephy Carl and Gladys Murphy of Georgetown, Texas; uncles Lewis Davis of Kalispell, Montana and Joseph Dudley of Georgetown, Texas.
He is survived by wife Laura Dee Davis of Austin; son Austin Edward Davis and son Jordan Christopher Davis of Austin; and "PawPaw" to grandson Jackson Edward Davis; mother Betty Murphy Davis of Austin; father-in-law Joe Smith; brother Christopher M. Davis and Jen D. Davis of Austin; nephew Braden Wray Davis and niece Lily Dee Davis; sister Angela and Michael Mushegan of Keller; nephew Michael Mushegan II and Kelsey; nephew Cole Aaron Mushegan; and niece Alexie Taylor Mushegan. Uncle Will Davis and Suzanne of Austin; aunt Frances Dudley of Georgetown; and uncle Carl and Trish Murphy of Georgetown.
Beloved friends and Pallbearers Austin E. Davis, Jordan C. Davis, Christopher M. Davis, Braden W. Davis, Troy Adler, Robert Goyen, Jay Mechling, Mike O’Connor. Honorary Pallbearers Joe Smith, John Dempsey, Chris Holt, Scott Oishi, Stephen Schneider, and first cousin Jeffrey Dudley.
Although he is no longer with us here, now he is at his eternal Home with Jesus and our heavenly loved ones. John 14:2-4 - "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. for visitation with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. at WEED-CORLEY-FISH located at 411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734. A burial blessing will follow at Austin Memorial Park located at 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731 at Mopac and Hancock (2222).
