

Gauranga Mookerjee died in Austin, Texas, on October 16, 2025, at the age of 79. He leaves behind Sons, Indra Neil and Subhra Jit, Daughter-In-Law, Rebecca Ann, Grand-Daughter, Kiryn, Brother, Debango, and Sisters Gouri, Krishna, and Anu. His beloved Wife, Kalpana, predeceased him in 2020.
Gauranga graduated from Bengal Engineering College in Sibpur, India in June of 1967. He completed his Masters in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Connecticut (1974) while working for The Bechtel Engineering firm. He was employed by Detroit Edison Company for approximately 25 years. He was the 1st Asian American to be appointed to the State of Michigan’s Board of Professional Engineers. He was chosen as Troy Michigan’s Citizen of the Year and was also appointed as a Fellow at the United States Department of Energy in Washington, DC. He was a true trailblazer.
In addition to being a loving husband, he lived a remarkable life and will be forever remembered for his vibrant energy, generosity, integrity, and compassion. He touched the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed.
