Virginia Gaye (Russell) Al-Rashid was born in Beaumont, Texas on 1/4/1945 to Alice and H.T. Russell. They moved to Austin when she was one year old with her baby brother Ted. She attended Lamar middle school and then graduated from McCallum High School where she was a National Merit Scholar and received a four year scholarship to attend TCU. After one year she transferred to The University of Texas at Austin where she met her future husband Nasser Al-Rashid. After marrying in Austin and giving birth to her first child Nourah they moved to Saudi Arabia where they lived for the next six years and their second child Ramzi was born.
She moved to central Austin after divorcing and enrolled at UT and completed her undergraduate degree and began to pursue her masters degree. She started her career in real estate investment which she was actively pursuing until recently.
Gaye passed away peacefully on the 19th of December 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents H.T. Russell and Alice (Mattfeld) Russell and survived by her brother H.T. "Ted" Russell and his wife Kathy, her daughter Dr. Nourah Al-Rashid Caskey, her son Ramzi Al-Rashid and his wife Nicole, as well as six grandchildren Seamus, Leah, Nasser, Madeline, Rory and Ramzi.
