He is survived by his beloved wife, Mickey (Mildred) Vater Broussard of Austin, Texas and his daughters, Brenda Broussard of Houston, Texas and Rhonda Broussard Graff along with son-in-law, Michael Graff, granddaughter, Lindsay Graff and grandson, Brian Graff of Houston, Texas.
He is also survived by his nieces, Diane Miller, Donna McGuire, Marlene Broussard, and Sally Vater Knezeak; his nephews, Mark Broussard and Max Vater, Jr.; and, sister-in-law, Charlene Broussard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Sybil Broussard; his infant son, Joseph; his brothers, Eddie Jr., Sanford, and Morris Broussard; and his half-sister, Wilma McCarthy.
Harvey was born in Houston, Texas, November 3, 1929. During the Depression, his father lost his business and they moved to Gueydan, Louisiana where the family originated. They also lived in Jennings and Lake Arthur before moving back to Houston in 1938. Harvey attended Holy Rosary grammar school and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1948. During high school, Harvey worked summers on his father's oil supply boats in the Gulf and worked as a cowboy in Cotulla, Texas for pay called "a dollar a day and found".
Harvey was sworn into the Air Force by his brother, Col. Eddie Broussard, who was commanding officer at Ellington AFB in Houston, Texas. After discharge, he attended the University of Houston but was recalled into the National Guard as a member of the 111th Fighter Squadron along with two of his brothers. He served in Japan and Korea during the Korean War.
After the war, he was employed by the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Guardian Financial Corporation and served as Texas Representative for The Union Bank of Michigan for 10 years. Harvey and his long-time business associate, Chris Chrisner (deceased), founded two bank service companies, Financial Counselor's, Inc. and Inco General Insurance Agency. They expanded their business into 24 states, merged with Foremost Insurance Company, and then went public in the 1970's.
Upon retiring, Harvey and his partner, Chris, continued to be active through their partnership, C&B Investments. The company was involved in real estate investments in Texarkana, Del Rio, Lubbock and Mexia, Texas. In Austin, they also operated Foremost Sand and Gravel, Inc., on an eight-acre tract on the Colorado River. Kathy Overstreet, a long-time employee and full partner in C&B Investments, is a major contributor to their success and valued friend.
Harvey and his loving wife, Mickey, enjoyed the outdoors and shared a great life together with their daughters, grandchildren, extended family and friends. They loved to ski and vacation at their mountain cabin in Westcliffe, Colorado, travel across the U.S. in their motor home, meeting new friends. Most of all, they loved living and boating on Lake Austin.
Harvey is best remembered for his generosity, kindness, artistic creativity and fun spirit. While extremely proud of his business success, he most enjoyed his many friends and family. Harvey believed that the true success of life resided in the love of family and the good you leave behind through the treatment of others. His words: "Pass it on ... "
On November 11, 2010 at 10:00 am, a Mass will be held at Emmaus Catholic Parish located at 1718 Lohman's Crossing Rd., Lakeway, Texas. Subsequently, on November 13, 2010, at 2:30 pm, a Remembrance Service and burial will be held at the Forest Park Lawndale Chapel of Angels and Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and Angel Heart Hospice for their care during his illness.
