James H. Schultz (Jim) was born on October 20, 1948, in Sioux City, IA to Gertrude and Herbert Schultz. He lived in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Colorado, The Netherlands, New Jersey, and in Austin, TX since 1996. He passed away from Alzheimer’s on June 5, 2026. He graduated in industrial engineering from Iowa State University. While at ISU, he was involved with TKE fraternity, where he was Vice President and President of Interfraternity Council when they won the Ironman Trophy for Top Greek System in the nation! He was also involved in Knights of St. Patrick, an engineering honor society. The day after he graduated in 1970, he and Debbie were married! They spent 56 years together and made wonderful friends across the world and accumulated many travel miles and memories along the way, all while creating a wonderful family! Jim served on many boards, including Gundersen Hospital Foundation, Comfort Systems USA, Twin City Fan, Inland Label, Goodman Global, ARI (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute), Energy Print, and proudly served on the Board for Roundup River Ranch, one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps for chronically ill children, in CO- a true passion of Jim and Deb’s! He worked for the Trane Co. for 31 years, made lifelong friends, while rising through the ranks from a sales engineer to become the youngest president at Trane, and eventually becoming an officer of and Executive VP of American Standard when they acquired Trane.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his son, Chris (Hannah) and daughter, Jennifer Goff (Andy), and 4 adored grandchildren- Kylie and Tyler Goff and Jaxon and Parker Schultz! He was a proud supporter of Kylie, the cheerleader, and Tyler, Jaxon, & Parker, all Soccer obsessed! He is also survived by his sister, Janet Kenien, and her family- Dr. Julie Erpelding (Dr. Jason), great-nieces Emily and Leah, and Susan Peterson (Brian), and great-nephews, Will and Eli. He is also survived by Debbie’s sister, Cathy Roseland, and her daughter, Kate Wachlarowicz (Mat), their children, Jack and Boone, and Bob Roseland (Heather) and their children, Lyla, Knox, Emery, and Kennedy. He is also survived by Deb’s extended family that she joyously inherited, the Peterson clan (all 36 of them)!
He was preceded by his parents, Deb’s parents, 3 brothers-in-law, 1 of Deb’s stepsisters, all grandparents, and our beloved labradoodle, Hershey, who was with us for 17 years.
He was a proud parent of and mentor to Chris and Jennifer! He made all football games, including buzzing the field before landing at the airport close by, to let Chris’ team know he was on his way! A very proud time for him was with Chris’ UW-LaCrosse football team as they worked their way to the D-III National Championship! He also was beside him for ski meets and baseball games (coached both his Pop Warner fb teams, and Little League baseball teams in Philly). He also supported his boys (Chris, and Brian & Eric Jetton, who we had custody of in H.S. in wrestling). He sat through 12 years of dance performances, and gymnastics meets, being acknowledged as the only Dad who showed up at the gymnastics meets in a suit and tie! He supported Deb in all her community and school endeavors, including renting the Trane grounds for $1/year to the citywide soccer program that Deb started with several friends! He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, leader, friend and mentor.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to the management and staff of Belmont Senior Living – Memory Care Unit in Lakeway, and all the caregivers connected to Silverado Hospice, who all took such good care of him in the last 6 months of his life. A special thank you to Gerry and Charlie Nickells who became special friends at Belmont!
