Jeanne Madeline Hutchison

Jeanne is preceded in death by her dearest husband John Stanley Hutchison (1922- 2010). Jeanne is survived by her children: Steve, Bruce, Ann and Mark; her grandchildren, Brooke, Alexis, Jennifer,Jesi, Cat, Brittney, Kylie, and Tyler; and her great grand children: Taylor, Payton, Jordan, Dottie, Madison, Austin, Emma,Bentley, Griffin, Murphy and Emerson.

Jeanne, a dietician, was born in Oklahoma City to Harry and Bertha House on September 24, 1922 into a family of five, with brothers George, Harry Jr. David, and sister Camille. She attended Oklahoma State University where she met John Stanley Hutchison on a scavenger hunt. They were married on May 31st, 1942, and soon after welcomed her four children, who were the most important part of her life.

Jeanne was a devoted mother who also loved and cared for all the people she met. Her warmth and compassion to all, and her involvement in all her children’s activities touched the lives of many. Many of her children’s friends also called her “Mom”.

As a dietician, she would always stress five, always the five food groups at the table. She would set times to eat, set times to do chores, but then she would push the children out to make the world an oyster to explore. Her four “Baby Boomer” kids were given the freedom to investigate the world. She would constantly say “go outside, outside, outside” everyday. No real toys were provided, but things to hammer, build, or plant. There were many winter Christmas tree forts made by picking up everyone’s old Christmas tree so the children could sleep in a fort in the snow, running in and out all night. Or, with the adventures of making clover chains longer than city blocks. Curiosity was a way of life in her house, resiliency was cultured thru problem solving and support for positive thinking, being, and loving.

With Jeanne and John Stanley, the family saw America by camping and tenting through the mighty Rocky Mountains and by the beautiful creeks that held hours of learning just by being a part of the universe. The harmony that she sought has continued in their children’s searches in their own lives.

Jeanne was heavily involved in all the children’s schooling and social lives. She was the homeroom mom with cupcakes, and she would always make homemade corsages for every holiday for the teachers. Supportive but no helicopter mom, she would say… “Stand up and face the music, Stand up and play the music, Stand up and be the Music.” But both Jeanne and her husband, John Stanley, were way ahead of the Beatles, they raised children in the difficult times of the 60’s, and their life and parenting philosophy was that they gave their children unconditional love… with tough love as a dinner mint.

Jeanne’s constant motto was “Bless it and let it go”. It is hard to capture or explain such a wondrous butterfly. She moved through all of our worlds, beautiful, unruly, sensitive and fragile. Very difficult to define, but so completely devoted, ever and always, to the love of her beloved offspring and their loves.

Jeanne was a member of the Greatest Generation and served her country in World War II. As a member of the Greatest Generation and part of a family that had fought in the American Revolution and all the past wars for America to remain free, she saw sacrifice, duty, and commitment as part of what life expected of all Americans. She served as a first LT. in the United States Army with overseas assignment to London as a dietician. Her care and concern for wounded veterans was truly an exemplary service to something greater than herself.

We, her children and spouses; Steve and Marieta, Bruce and partner Kathy, Ann and Chuck McCormick, Mark and Carolyn give our mom to the universe to return to her beginnings and her first love. Mom, we will all dearly miss your sweet smile and loving concerns for us, thank you from all our hearts.

We, her grandchildren and spouses; Brooke and Bob, Jennifer and Greg, Alexis and Dustin, Jesi and Matt, Cat and Sam, Kylie, Brittney, and Tyler John, thank our grandmother for teaching us how to sew, cook, paint, play and just loving us so dearly.

We, her Great Grandchildren; Taylor, Payton, Jordan, Dottie, Madison, Austin, Emma, Bentley, Griffin, Murphy and Emerson, wish we had had more time to play with and hug our Grandma Jeanne.

She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.

A military service is scheduled for November 27, at 11:30 am. At Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas.
