Jo Anne Sala (Dombrowski), 58, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2021, with her loving family at her side. With grace, optimism and gratitude for every day and every person she met, she courageously battled cancer for several years. She was a lifelong educator, with a teaching career extending 32 years before retiring from the Leander Independent School District in 2018 as a Dyslexia Specialist.
Jo Anne lived her life smiling, with a joy and kindness that made once strangers into lifelong friends. She cherished family trips to Spain, Ocean City, NJ, and Pittsburgh. Jo loved being a mother and she adored her sons. She poured herself into teaching, educating the whole person with respect and dignity, building skills and developing confidence in students that will impact them for their lifetimes. Jo valued the relationship she had with her colleagues - The Dyslexia Ladies. In her spare time, JoAnne was an avid reader, consuming books of every sort, and passing that trait to her sons. She loved her many extended trips to her home in Pittsburgh. She and her sister Kate oversaw the remodeling of a 118 year old home and turned it into the warmest place you would want to rest your head. Jo loved thrifting. Along with her sister Kate, Jo would always be on the hunt for bargains. In all Jo Anne did, she did it to the fullest, and she made life fuller for all of those so fortunate to have her as part of their lives.
Jo Anne is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Rob, and their two sons, Ryan and Evan plus Ruby, her sweet beagle; parents Edward and Mary Esther Dombrowski; siblings Michael Dombrowski and his spouse Christine, Kathleen (Dombrowski) Miller and her spouse Donald Miller; and many cousins that all saw her as their big sister.
