Joe was born April 26, 1949 in Luling, Texas. He was a 1968 graduate of Killeen High School and attended Central Texas College. A long time resident of San Antonio, he had a long, rewarding career with Fleming Foods, as a merchandising manager. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit that motivated him to co-found several check cashing businesses. He returned to procurement management with Andrea International in 1995 and later Super S foods in San Antonio. After an early retirement, Joe made his home in Lakeway, Texas where in his spare time, he launched a new career as Joe-The-Bartender. His team quickly became a prominent fixture among area weddings and celebrations.
Joe was most proud of being a father to his loving daughter, Rachel. He enjoyed golfing and teaching Rachel the intricacies of golf at a young age. She was his favorite companion at Spurs basketball games and on his annual road trips to Port Aransas. He had excellent culinary skills and loved creating and bringing artistry to his dishes and using produce from his own garden. Joe was also a gifted artist and enjoyed painting. It should also be noted, that Joe was a fantastic dancing partner. Joe's wisdom, cool style, fun and loving spirit will be greatly missed.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie E. and Vena Jane Mladenka, and his sister, Johnnie Ratcliffe and nephew, Wayne Ratcliffe.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Rachel Mladenka of Austin. His sisters, Judy Abernethy of Round Rock; Jill Pickren of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters and brothers-in-law of Lakeway, Jeri Bearden Archuleta and Michael Archuleta, Joy and Brian Peters, and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank The Lions Club of Lake Travis and Girling Home Health Care for their many acts of kindness and service.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th at Weed-Corley-Fish in Lakeway, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joe's favorite charity, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
