John “Jack” Conrad Scheider, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in Austin,Texas surrounded by his family and loving wife of 57 years. Jack was born in New York City on April 8, 1935 to Eleanor and John Scheider. He married the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Carpentier on June 30, 1962. Jack went to Catholic schools and was a man of faith. No skipping Mass for Jack when on vacation. Also he loved the Rosary.
Even at a very early age he demonstrated a love of flying and airplanes and a great desire to become a pilot. His passion led him to the United States Air Force and his dream to become a pilot came true.
Jack graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with an Electrical Engineering Degree. He enjoyed his work over the years, especially in the Aerospace industry and working on the Apollo flights.
Jack loved to travel and he and Joan visited many destinations including several trips to Hawaii, Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and Galveston. His three daughters and wife took great pleasure boating on Lake Conroe and Lake Travis for years with “Captain” Jack at the helm. Jack also liked to build and fly large radio control model airplanes. He was fond of attending plays, movies and concerts. He enjoyed telling jokes and puns. Visiting with his five granddaughters provided him with much happiness and he never left without a tear in his eye.
Jack worked tirelessly as a volunteer at The Austin State School advocating for people with mental disabilities and spearheading the annual Christmas Party and Fourth of July Celebration with the Knights
of Columbus. He was passionate about helping others and improving their quality of life. But the greatest gift he ever gave was when he donated a kidney to his wife in 2004.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters- Debbie Hesse; Donna Hawkins and husband, Bill; Dianne Glover and husband, Phil; granddaughters- Ashley Welborn Shah and husband Rishi; Brittany Welborn; Gabriella Hesse; Hannah Hesse; and Katie Glover.
