Joyce Ann Horn was born on May 31, 1940 in the small city of Bertrand, Missouri. She spent most of her life living in the state of Missouri. She has two sisters, Lois and Patricia and is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Pauline Thomas. Joyce dedicated her life to raising her son, Dan, until his teenage years. Thereafter, Joyce worked in the retail industry from which she retired to enjoy being a homemaker.
In 2009, Joyce and her beloved husband of 56 years, Ron, relocated to Bee Cave, Texas. There, she was able to be closer to her only son, Dan, his wife Ceci and their son, Julian. She enjoyed spoiling Julian with everything from small chocolate goodies to tight priceless hugs. She was an incredible grandmother!
When Joyce began her cancer journey in 2014, she vowed to fight with everything she had. She fought for two and a half years. Even though cancer made it difficult to smile sometimes, she still tried to enjoyed life to its fullest by spending her time with her loving family. Some of her fondest memories was playing board games, putting puzzles together, drawing and coloring with Julian.
Joyce, age 76, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones after this long courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 12:58pm. Our caring nurse, Laurie, from Hospice Austin was by our side as well. Without Laurie there, we would have been at a loss. And even though our hearts have shattered, we are comforted to know that our Joyce is no longer in pain and suffering.
The family expresses great appreciation to Texas Oncology and Hospice Austin for everything they did to assist and guide us during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78759 in Joyce's name.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 6:30pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lakeway, Texas. Complying with Joyce's wishes, there will not be a graveside ceremony.
