Marilyn Anne (Young) Skinner died peacefully with her loved ones by her side on the 18th of November after a short bout with cancer. Like most native Minnesotans, she had an inner strength and passionate spirit that propelled her throughout her life. Marilyn was the daughter of Don and Babe Young and was born on March 17 in St. Paul, Minnesota. (The year of her birth is the best kept secret to this day!)
After moving to Houston, she attended McMahon College of Court Reporting, and was subsequently employed by the Harris County Criminal District Courts for thirty years. During her employment, she was an active member of the National Court Reporters Association. Marilyn later relocated to Austin because she just couldn’t stand not seeing her grandchildren as often as she’d liked. Aside from travelling, reading, entertaining and her stints as President of St. Andrews Residential Property Owners Association, Inc., and a participating member of Lake Travis Democrats, Marilyn spent as much time as possible –preferably with a glass of wine in one hand, and salsa music in the background—laughing with her much-loved family and friends.
Her son Eric Oslin, daughter Elizabeth Mewborne, son-in-law John Mewborne, her dearly loved granddaughters Julia and Nina, brother Don Young and sister Carol Young, many nieces and nephews and life-long friends will greatly miss her quick wit and salty humor.
The family would like to thank and commend the care team at Hospice Austin for their incredible service and empathy.
