Jannette, or Ninny as her grandchildren called her, loved life and loved her family. She didn’t have an easy life, but always made the best of it. Even during tough times, she always found something to smile or laugh about.
Jannette was sassy, but also had an enduring southern charm and sweetness.
She wasn’t shy about her Hollywood crushes. Tom Selleck and Don Johnson eventually aged out and Leo DiCaprio took their place...”Oh, Leo!”
Jannette liked flashy clothes, music, dancing, a fresh perm and the Texas Longhorns. As a girl that grew up in the dry plains of Texas, she had a love for swimming! She was adventurous and liked to try new things.
Jannette embraced life in all its forms, but never took things too seriously. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by those that had the privilege to know and love her.
Jannette was born to Travis Hancock and Katherine Burns Hancock, January 5, 1934. She lived life on the farm in Hale Center, Texas with her parents, her brother Glen Hancock and her sister Janie Hancock Moseley . She worked hard as a kid, doing everything from milking the cows to plowing the fields. When she had free time she played basketball and loved going to the movies. In 1950, at the age of sixteen, she fell in love with Johnie St. Clair. Despite her parent’s objections, they were married in Hale Center, Texas that same year.
Jannette and Johnie built their lives around raising their two children and farming in eastern New Mexico and the Panhandle of Texas. They eventually ended up in Muleshoe, Texas where they stayed for over 25 years.
While in Muleshoe, Jannette bought and ran J’s Dry Cleaners for several years. She was a member of the Church of Christ and loved singing with the other members. She and Johnie also loved to square dance!
Eventually, Jannette and Johnie left Muleshoe and moved to the big city of Austin. Surprisingly, they adjusted well and came to love their new home. Together, they spent many happy years in Austin. After Johnie’s death in 2012, Jannette continued to flourish, making new friends and spending time with her family.
Jannette is survived by her loving daughter and best friend, Jana Graham, Jana’s husband Jack of Lakeway, Texas, and her grandchildren: Trenton Cox of Kyle, Texas, Brandon Cox and his partner Katie Van Wyngeeren of Lakeway, Texas and Devon Cox and his wife Christy of Springfield, Tennessee.
