Masae ‘Lucy’ Mikrut, 96, peacefully passed away August 31, 2025, at her home in the Belmont Village Senior Living Care located in Lakeway, Texas. Lucy was born on March 30, 1929, in Kobe, Japan. She lived in Lake County Illinois for over 50 years and was employed by Abbott Laboratories. After retiring from Abbott, she traveled extensively throughout the world learning about new cultures and visiting with her many friends during those trips. She spent her last 6 years in Lakeway (near Austin) Texas where she made many friends with her kind and gentle spirit, playing bridge, bingo, exercising, and cheering on the Chicago Bears. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Charley W. Mikrut and her son Charles Alan Mikrut. She is survived by her son William (Stacy) Mikrut, granddaughter Darcy (Logan) Mikrut, grandson Marcus Mikrut, and good friends Tina Mikrut and Luiza Towata.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren of whom she was so proud. She reveled in their achievements and always displayed humility, compassion, and strength as a role model. Oba, as she was called by her grandchildren, will be missed by all.
There will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, we know she would want everyone to enjoy their everyday lives in a simple, kind, and peaceful fashion as she did. On October 4, 2025 her remains will be buried at the Pottstown Cemetery in Peoria, Illinois next to her son and husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lake Travis Labor of Love (www.ltlov.org).
