Odin Ray Hensley

Odin Ray Hensley, a powerhouse athlete and tender-hearted young man, left us far too soon—but not before touching the lives of those around him, like a handprint captured in cement—unmistakable, permanent, and impossible to forget.

Odin was born on August 1, 2009, in Austin, Texas, to Christina Hensley and Joshua Hensley, and at just 17 years old, he passed away on August 13, 2026. Odin is survived by his father, Joshua Hensley; mother, Christina Hensley; stepfather, Brett Joyner; half-sister, Halona Hensley; and grandfather, Steve Flores. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marybeth Flores.

After his early years in Buda and Harker Heights, Odin joined the Lake Travis community, where he became a Lake Pointe Elementary Eagle, then a Bee Cave Middle School Raider, and finally made his home at Lake Travis High School as a proud Cavalier.

Football and wrestling were his passions, and his teammates at Lake Travis and 3F Wrestling became another kind of family. On the football field, Odin was a force on the offensive line. On the wrestling mat, he competed as a heavyweight. His size and strength were undeniable, but those who knew him best knew there was a gentle heart behind the giant. Away from the field and mat, Odin enjoyed video games, anime, and time with his friends—proof that beneath the athlete was simply a kid who loved having fun.

Odin’s legacy will be one of encouraging and defending the underdog, always doing the right thing, a quiet but fierce loyalty to those he cared about, and tackling his dreams with humility and honor. Odin believed in others when they doubted themselves, and he emotionally—and sometimes literally—lifted others up when they were knocked down. Like the time the school principal called home to report that, during a bullying incident where a kid was pushed down, Odin was found lifting the kid off the ground to make sure he was okay. That was Odin. His kindness was never a weakness—it was his strength. It was an expression of his true self and his purpose. He was goofy and patient. Kind and loyal. Tender but tough. And, at times, maybe just a little bit of a bull in a china shop.

He did not fear failure; he had big dreams, enormous talent and a brilliant future ahead of him. He dreamed of playing football for as long as possible, and he stood on the edge of this dream becoming a reality beyond high school.

Odin will be remembered with love by his teammates, cherished friends, coaches, teachers, and above all, his family. When his story is shared years from now, it will be one of enduring love, extraordinary kindness, quiet strength, honor, and compassion, sprinkled, as it should be, with plenty of funny memories and laughter. He will be remembered not only for how fiercely he competed, but how deeply he loved; not only for his strength, but for his kindness and especially for the unmistakable imprint he left on our hearts.
