Born on September 14, 1945, in Plattsburgh, New York, Hubba was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Florence (Howard) Case. He graduated from Roy C. Ketchum High School in Wappingers Falls, NY, in 1964, where he was a standout baseball player. He proudly served as Petty Officer Third Class in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. Following his military service, he dedicated 23 years to the state of New York as a corrections officer, earning several letters of recognition for his courage and dedication; retiring in 1991.
In 1973, Hubba married his beloved Lucy Richart, a spirited Italian from the Bronx who adored him. They built their life together in Hopewell Junction, where Hubba served as a volunteer firefighter. In 1994, they relocated to Lakeway, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Hubba was celebrated for his quick wit, fun-loving spirit, and devotion to his family and friends. A proud member of the Italian Club, he loved dancing with Lucy. He was an enthusiastic parade-goer, with a special fondness for the Lakeway 4th of July and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parades.
Hubba's passion for golf was evident in his choice to live on the 16th hole of the Yaupon golf course (Lakeway). He also had a deep love for classic cars, hot rods, and NASCAR. Afternoons found him at Guarantee Automotive, where he engaged in spirited conversations with Gerald, Ron, Gary, and Debbie. A daily player of Lotto Texas, Hubba also enjoyed bi-monthly poker games with his "Poker Buddies." His pride and joy was his Dodge Challenger Super Bee, and he delighted in making a grand exit, peeling out and burning rubber for all to hear.
Rodney's legacy is one of love, family, and laughter. He leaves behind his brother-in-law, Robert Nichols; his nephews, Russell Nichols and wife Lynn Nichols, Chris Case and wife Jennifer Case. His grand-nieces Katie Case, Victoria Widrick & Rebecca Nichols and his grand-nephews Jack Case & Ryan Nichols. Hubba also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Gail Hardy (Partner Cedric) and Lin Knutson (Husband Michael), Gary & Dan; his grandchildren, Deanna Ford (Husband Mike), Jennifer Minton, Chelsea Ladendorf (Husband Derek), Brittney Garner, Nicole, Shawn Knutson and “Angela” Kaitlin Tuttle. Great grandchildren Ben Ford, Megan Ford, Lucy Minton, Maxwell Minton, Callie Garner, Savvy Ladendorf, Sabrina Knutson, Sylvan Dixon, Summer Abbenante, Alyssa Knutson, & Baylon Ross. Great-great grandchildren Theobalt Fleck, Emery Smith and Shayden Knutson. Longtime friend Jim Hardy.
In addition to his parents, Hubba is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucy Case; his sisters, Gail Nichols, Debbie Case, and Arlene Case; his brothers, Michael Case and Jack Case; his nephew, Scott Nichols; and his sister-in-law, Odette Case.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans organization. A special thanks to the incredible team at The Beacon Hospice facility for their compassionate care of Hubba in his final days.
Hubba, your Donald Duck impressions, unforgettable one-liners, and those Texas-size hugs will be deeply missed.
