June 21st, 1930 – December 16th, 2021
Ruth Voncille Jacobi passed away at her home in Lakeway, Texas on Thursday morning, December 16th, 2021, with her daughter, Mary Lane, and sons, Jeff and Jesse, by her side. Voncille was born in Electra, Texas on June 21st, 1930, the youngest child of Dewey Lee and Iva Belle (Ratcliffe) Dovel. Growing up in Electra, she attended and graduated from school there, leading a very active and social life. As a child and young adult, she was a member of The First Christian Church of Electra, eventually serving as a pianist for the church.
She graduated from Electra High School in 1947, where she was a member of National Honor Society, co-editor of the Bengal Yearbook, member of Quill and Scroll Society, regional debate team, Who's Who in Speech, class officer, honorary Lion's Club member, president of the Choral Club, associate editor of Tiger Tales newspaper and fourth highest graduate of her class. In 1983, she was honored by the Electra Ex-Students Association as the Outstanding Woman Ex-Student during Homecoming festivities. In 1989, Voncille co-chaired the Electra Chamber of Commerce’s Keep Texas Beautiful campaign, which won the Governor of Texas Community Achievement Award.
She attended Hardin College for one year and completed studies at Draughon's Business College. She served as general accountant for the Dovel family grocery and market, as well as for the White Gold Dairy, which she helped establish with her husband, Joe. Voncille also received her Series 6 & 7 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and was a licensed representative for Primerica. She later worked at Dorland Machine as a general accountant and computer operator, retiring from Flusche Supply in that same capacity in 2004.
Voncille married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Richard Jacobi, in 1950 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Raising eight children in Electra, Voncille was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, teaching religious classes to various age groups. She was also active in Electra Little League, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Electra Booster Club, Electra Music Club, Girls’ Softball, Kid Football and PTA.
Upon retirement, Voncille and Joe moved to Lakeway to be near family and became active members of the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord – Emmaus Catholic Parish. They made many new friends who knew her by her first name, Ruth.
Voncille and Joe celebrated 65 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents; as well as her brothers, Dewey, Jr. and Bob; and her sister, Mary Agnes “Aggie” Crutchfield.
Voncille is survived by seven sons; Joe and wife Linda, John and wife Sarah, Jim and wife Sherry, Jeff and wife Linda, Justin and wife Lisa, Jesse and wife Cindy, Josh and wife Karen; and by one daughter, Mary Lane Jacobi and fiancé Billy Goodwin. She is also survived by 15 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Voncille was known to her many friends and her family as one of the most caring and optimistic people in their lives, with a sharp mind and incredible memory. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service and mass will be held in Lakeway for Ruth Voncille on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord – Emmaus Catholic Parish, Lakeway, Texas, at 9:30am with Father Samuel L. Hose officiating.
