

Sharon Mebane Markham, age 76, of Lakeway, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025. She was born on November 22, 1948, in Houston, Texas, to the late Thelma Laiche Mebane and Samuel Kerr Mebane. Sharon’s life was one of devotion, kindness, and service to others, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Sharon is survived by her brother, William Mebane (Cheryl); her nephew, David (Kelly); and her great-nephew, Weston Mebane, and great-niece, Caroline Mebane. She was preceded in death by her parents, who she held in the deepest regard.
Sharon’s early years were spent in Houston before moving to New Orleans at the age of two. After high school, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she attended Southern Methodist University (SMU), earning both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
For 22 years, Sharon made a profound impact on the lives of countless children as a second-grade teacher in the Austin Independent School District. She considered it a great privilege to guide and nurture the minds and hearts of the young students entrusted to her care. Her teaching was a reflection of her deep love for others, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her thoughtfulness, and her infectious laugh that brightened the lives of her colleagues and students alike.
Outside of her professional life, Sharon had a passion for decorating her home for all seasons and was known for her warm hospitality, frequently inviting friends and family to enjoy the comfort of her home. Her love for animals, especially rescue dogs, was immeasurable. Throughout her life, she provided a safe, loving home for many rescued dogs, and she eagerly looked forward to the day she would be reunited with them in heaven.
A memorial service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 2 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas. Pastor Larry Coulter will officiate. A private ceremony for the interment of her ashes will take place at a later date at All Saints Presbyterian Church, Austin.

Sharon will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students, and all who were blessed to have known her. May her memory live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
