Stephen "Steve" Roper Holland

Steve was born on July 3, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Hal Hicks Holland and Carol Jean Roper Holland. He grew up in Corpus Christi where he attended W.B. Ray High School before attending the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He later made his home in Houston, Austin, and Spicewood, Texas.

Steve served in the Texas National Guard from 1969 to 1975 and spent most of his career as a commercial real estate broker. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Austin and Austin Ridge Bible Church, where he led a men's Bible study and Life Group in Barton Creek Lakeside. He also volunteered with Helping Hands Crisis Ministries.

Above all, Steve deeply loved his family and was married to the love of his life, Kathy Myers Holland, for 57 years. Their marriage was a truly beautiful union and a blessing to their family. He loved spending time with his family, always making time for his children, grandchildren, and other family members. Steve treasured his friendships. He had a gift for fostering lifelong friendships and continued to make new friends at every stage of his life. He never met a stranger and loved talking to new people wherever he went. He enjoyed playing golf (often a love-hate relationship), playing guitar, fishing, hiking, and watching football (especially his alma mater, UT, and his grandsons at Regents School of Austin). He especially loved the mountains and cherished his time in Creede, Colorado.

Steve was a man of integrity and humility, with a unique way of listening and making others feel seen. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh. He loved life and was always up for an adventure. He put his faith first and illuminated the light of Christ in all that he did. He walked with Jesus daily, and his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now with his Savior in heaven.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughters, Carrie Holland Devine, married to Joe Devine, and Carly Holland Shepherd, married to Trent Shepherd; and his grandchildren, Holland Devine, Jack Devine, Hudson Devine, Charley Devine, Gray Shepherd, and Ty Shepherd. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Holland, married to Julie, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Austin Ridge Bible Church, Southwest Campus in Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Crisis Ministries of Spicewood, Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, or MD Anderson Medical Center.
