OBITUARY

Tyler Richard Elkins

March 18, 2003November 7, 2020

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, we lost our beautiful boy, Tyler Richard Elkins. We will miss him each and everyday for the rest of our lives. We are here today to celebrate his life of 17 years that was cut too short. Tyler was born on March 18, 2003 in Laguna Hills, CA to Timothy and Christa Elkins. He was the 3rd of 4 children. His sisters Ariana, Kaitlyn, and Olivia will miss him greatly.

Tyler was a joyful child who from the very beginning had a great love for music. He started playing drums at the age of 3 and soon after fell deeply in love with playing the guitar. He also played violin, saxophone, and the piano. Music became an escape for Tyler from the outside world. Music was a gift that Tyler shared with all of us and we are so thankful for this.

Tyler had a unique way of looking at the world. He truly was a freethinker. He never understood why he had to follow all of the rules. He enjoyed tinkering with things, taking apart electronics and putting them back together. He built his own computer and sound system. His love for the beach and all things tropical influenced everything he touched… from the way he dressed to the music he loved and even his favorite candles. Tyler was attending St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, Texas, and was hoping to go to college in Colorado to pursue a career in audio engineering. His future was limitless. This world is a little darker and quieter without Tyler but Heaven is rejoicing and the angels are singing while Ty plays his favorite acoustic guitar.

Our family met Tyler his Freshman year at SMCHS. Our daughter Maya was in Guitar Ensemble with him. At the first performance we noticed how musically gifted Tyler was. She spoke about how talented he was and that she liked him. We met him after school one day and noticed from the very beginning, how invested he was. Tyler and Maya grew very close and quickly became one of those sweet couples that everyone sought to attain in high school. They were able to share their love of music, Sushi and the beach together.

Tyler was dedicated and cherished those that were important to him. Their relationship endured the move to Texas which was tough. They spent hours on Facetime, did their homework together and played music, it was so kind and pure. He became a part of our evening routines as they were always on the phone with each other. He tried to keep his presence as strong as possible. We always appreciated how devoted Tyler was, relishing in knowing that a teenage boy genuinely loved and adored our daughter, something that is a rarity in this society. It was tough to see how much they missed each other but they evolved their relationship and made it work the best they could. He would even have dinner dates via Facetime. Just a sweetheart...

One of our favorite memories with Tyler was a trip to Newport Beach. We took electric skateboards with us and Tyler was trying to teach Maya how to ride the skateboard. He was worried about her falling so he jumped on the board with her to make sure she was ok. Again, kind and sweet. When Tyler came to CA, we would do our best to help them spend time together. It was hard to see them miss each other so much and after almost 2 years, the relationship ended.

They recently reconnected as friends, truly wanting what was best for each other. Maya felt that he missing his girlfriend away at school.

He was a friend, brother, son, boyfriend, genius, guitar virtuoso with an incredible light.

Rest in peace sweet Tyler.
