Andy was born on September 3, 1931, in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, to Andrew and Iva (Clark) Anderson. He graduated from Elmdale Rural High School in 1949. On August 15, 1953, Andy was united in marriage to Mary Deane Moore in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. The couple moved to Medicine Lodge where Andy worked at the Barber County Index as a printer. Two years later, he had a lease on a Texaco service station. Gas was 29 cents for regular and 32 cents for premium. A lube job was $1.25, and a quart of oil was 40 cents. After five years, Andy lost the lease to the station and moved the family to Anthony, Kansas, where he worked for the Anthony Republic Newspaper. He and Mary now had three daughters, Teresa, Cynthia, and Vicky. In 1962 Andy moved the family to Wasco, California, where he was the advertising manager of the Wasco Tribune. Summer vacations meant loading the family into the 1957 yellow chevy and heading out to Kansas to visit relatives. In 1967 Andy moved the family to Lancaster, California, to work as the classified manager of the Ledger Gazette. In 1977 Andy was a Real Estate Broker, after a short time with the Penny Saver and selling blown-in insulation. Andy specialized in commercial development properties. He also served for many years as a deacon at Central Christian Church. Andy loved watching the Lakers, he could fix anything broken, enjoyed gardening-especially growing tomatoes, fishing, golfing, and sitting with one of the many Yorkies that he and Mary had over the years.
Andrew’s wife, Mary, proceeded him in death on August 14, 2026. He is survived by his children Teresa (Mark) Shaffstall of Ocala, Florida, Cynthia Anderson of Steele Alabama, and Vicky (Lawrence) Coates of Lancaster, California; his four grandchildren, Michael and Mark Shaffstall, and Megan and Andrew Coates; his five great-grandchildren, Kaelan, Kyla, Nora Kate, Fox, and Liam Shaffstall.
