As a teenager, Avis moved to California, where she attended Jefferson High School in Los Angeles. She married William Wooten in 1947, and together they raised four children: Frederick, Timothy, Hope and Jeffery. Avis worked for Bullocks department store for over 20 years, and for Royal Insurance Company for almost 25 years.
Avis gave her heart to the Lord in her early 20’s.
She was called to be a missionary in the 1960’s, under the leadership of the late Bishop L.M. Driver, Sr. Avis furthered her education in Bible studies at Biola University in La Mirada, California. She moved to Lancaster, California in 1995, where she was a faithful member of the Faith Chapel North COGIC.
Avis was known for her love of fashion, which often included a hat. She also had a great sense of humor.
Avis was called home to the Lord on January 5, 2021. She leaves behind to mourn her loss, sons Frederick Wooten of Inglewood, CA and Timothy Crooks of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren Michael, Ebony, Taylor, Makaio and Talia; great grandchildren Elijah, Mustafah, Jeremiah, Julian, Stewart, Sabino and Sincere; daughters-in-law, Kathryn, Marsha and Danielle, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are daughter, Hope Denise; son, Jeffery; father, Ezra Fisher; mother, Justine Fisher; sister, Doris Wilson; brothers Joel and Erwin Fisher.
