Calvin Coolidge Divens
November 25, 1925 – September 5, 2019
Please forgive me for this brief depiction of the life and times of the departed Calvin Divens, who was born in Axton, Virginia in 1925. Calvin spent his childhood growing-up in the coal-mining hamlet of Berwind, West Virginia. He was the third of six siblings. Four of whom predeceased him. At the age of eighteen Calvin was drafted into the Armed Forces, and sent to the ETO_European Theatre of Operations, where he served in 1699th Engr Combat Batallion earning three Battle Stars for action in France, Belguim, and Germany. Following the War in Europe, Sgt Divens was sent to the South Pacific where he earned yet another Ribbon for the Philippine Liberation. After an Honorable Discharge from the US Army in 1946, Calvin returned to West Virginia, where he was employed briefly as a Coral Miner before enrolling in West Virginia State College, where he sought a degree in Socialogy. In 1954 Calvin Re-enlisted in the USAF after which time he married Shirley Hairston. Honorably discharged once again. Calvin sought employment with the US Postal Service. After a prosperous, and length tenure as Superintendant of Postal Operations at Pacoima, California. Mr. Divens retired. Calvin is survived by his Wife Shirley Divens, three children, Calvin T.
