Charles Benner, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. He was born in Charleston, Illinois. Charles honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Wright, in 1953, who survives him after 69 years of marriage. They came to Edwards Air Force Base at the end of that year, after aircraft schooling in Texas. Charles became a civil servant at Edwards AFB, eventually becoming Chief of Quality Control on helicopters for the Army, retiring in 1989. His passion, besides his family, was restoring antique cars. He and his wife have been members of Roosevelt Community Church in Lancaster for 64 years. Charles and Phyllis raised three children. Charles was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Kelly Martin (Matthew). He is survived by his children, Scott Benner, and Gail Cole (Doug). Also surviving him are his five grandchildren, Tanya Daly (Brandon), Lindsay Wiley (Brian), Travis Cole (Kaitlyn), Tyler Martin, and Dylan Martin, and his three great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster, on Wednesday, June 29, at 10:30 am.
