

Vern passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2022 at the age of 105. He was born January 4th, 1917 in Caldwell, Idaho to Parley and Hazel Chase. Vern grew up in Idaho during the depression. While in high school he began working at a local grocery store where he became head clerk. He went on to become manager of a grocery store in Mud Lake, Idaho. During World War II, Vern joined the United States Army Air Corps. After the War he returned to Idaho to try his hand at farming. He eventually decided to take a job as an electrical inspector for McDonnell Douglas. It was here that he met the love of his life, Triny, and they were married a couple years later. Vern spent most of his career as a buyer for the U.S. Navy and Air Force with the KC10 program. He retired in 1983 after 30 years in civil service.
Retirement did not slow Vern down. He and Triny spent retirement traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe and joined several square dance groups. Vern also filled his time painting, crocheting, and emailing family and friends. Family was important to Vern. He was always there when needed to lend a hand or to listen. He was known for his many stories about his adventures growing up in Idaho. Vern was truly an amazing man and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Vern was preceded in death by his loving wife, Triny, and his son-in-law, John Gillespie, Jr. He is survived by his devoted daughter Gloria Gillespie; granddaughter, Cynthia St. Peter (Jase); great-granddaughter Kayla St. Peter; great-grandson Gavin St. Peter; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, August 15, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93535.
