

Darren was born to Willie "Cecil" and Rebecca "Becky' Godfrey on June 7, 1968 in Kansas City, Missouri. the family later relocated to Houston Texas where he resided until graduating high school.
As a child, Darren was active in Boy Scouts, loved dirt bikes and swimming. Darren was known for his humor and love of practical jokes. Darren graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1987 where he was a member of the varsity baseball team.
Darren enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division and the Gulf War. While in the service he received many service medals and ribbons including the Southwest Asia Service medal with two Bronze Stars. After an honorable discharge he moved to Los Angeles, CA.
In 2002 Darren met Kimberly White whom he married on September 6, 2008 and two children were born to this union. From 2005 until the time of his death Darren served as a Corrections Officer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation or CDCR with the rank of Sergeant two years ago.
When he wasn't at work Darren loved working on his 67 Mustang, camping and fishing. He often said about fishing, "its not about the fish, but the thrill of the chase". He also loved to travel.
Darren was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his wife Kimberly, children Hope, Jamal, and London; siblings, sister, La Monica, (Macia, Anbriel, Kiyah) brother Kelly, sister Canda (Ajoya), grandmother, aunts, one uncle, cousins and friends.
Darren will be greatly missed.
