in Bakersfield, California. He passed peacefully in his sleep after a battle with
Parkinson’s disease.
Jerry was born on May 10th, 1933 in Paterson, New Jersey, the youngest child of
Irving & Mabel Riedmiller. He was raised in New Jersey until the 1950s when his
family headed west to Southern California. He married Erma Cecchini on
September 10, 1955 in Oxnard, CA.
During the early 1950’s, Jerry served his country in the Korean War, and received
an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1955.
Jerry was a longtime resident of Camarillo, CA where he coached Roadrunner
football and was the manager of the Midgets program for many years. During the
early 1970’s, he served as the President of the ACHS booster club, and was
instrumental in the fundraising for stadium lights so football games could be
played at night. Jerry volunteered for youth athletic programs and clubs, including
coaching Camarillo Youth Baseball, Youth Baseball at the Port Hueneme Naval
Base, and as a Cub Scout leader in Oxnard.
A true kid at heart, Jerry played Santa Claus every December for “Follow the
Stars” on Gemini Court in Camarillo, as well as countless organizations and
families spanning multiple generations. He also loved playing the Easter Bunny for
his grandchildren, was an avid NY/SF Giants fan, and spent his happiest times
watching USC Trojans football games with his family.
He spent his working years as a postman in Ventura County, and at Litton in the
San Fernando Valley and Moorpark. He later moved to California City, CA where
he and wife Erma had an open door for friends, family, and grandchildren visiting,
swimming, laughing, eating together, and playing Yahtzee, Scrabble, and cards.
Jerry was beloved by all who knew him, always bringing fun to every gathering,
along with his warm spirit, loyalty, and dedicated friendship. He was always
willing to help, and gave everyone he knew his very best. Jerry had a wonderful
sense of humor that he passed on to his children and grandchildren, and the
Riedmiller home was always full of laughter, even through his final days.
He is survived by his wife Erma Riedmiller (Cecchini), sons Dennis Riedmiller
(Julie), Michael Riedmiller (Debbie), and Steven Riedmiller (Jill), grandchildren
Ryan Riedmiller (Nikki), Meghan Musser (Benjamin), Douglas Riedmiller
(Theresa), Russell Riedmiller (Dasia), Matthew Horn (Brittany), Jeffrey
Riedmiller, and Jackson Riedmiller, and great grandchildren Bryson Horn, Mason
Horn, Jack Riedmiller, Stiles Riedmiller, Hank Musser, Teddy Riedmiller, and two
on the way, brother Skip Riedmiller, sister Ann Koren, and many nieces, nephews,
extended family, and friends. His circle was large, as he was a beloved friend and
relative who welcomed everyone as family.
Jerry is predeceased by his sister Agnes Riedmiller, brother Joseph Riedmiller
(Rosemary), brother-in-law Stuart Koren, sister-in-law Nita Riedmiller, best
friend Gene Reese, his beloved parents Irving and Mabel Riedmiller, in-laws Peter
and Ida Cecchini, other dear family and friends, and a long list of family pets that
he loved dearly.
His Memorial service will be held on January 7th with immediate family members
only due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Plans to gather for a larger celebration with
extended family and friends will be later in the summer of 2022.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Michael J Fox Foundation for
Parkinson’s Research, or The National Veterans Foundation.
As we mourn the passing of such a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle
and friend, we know he would want us to carry on in life with peace, togetherness,
and most importantly, to have fun and laughter along the way.
