Hobart Anthony (Jay) Jenkins

Hobart A. (Jay) Jenkins, of Lancaster California, passed away on July 30, 2026. While his passing leaves a profound void, those who knew him will remember a life marked by generosity, loyalty and friendship. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Jay was born on September 24, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to Essex and Margaret Jenkins. He attended elementary and high school in San Fernando Valley and pursued studies at Los Angeles Valley College. His studies were interrupted when he enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1967. After a tour of duty in Vietnam he was honorably discharged. Following his Army experience, Jay joined Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and retired after 40 years of service.

Jay was a lifelong learner whose curiosity never waned. Whenever a new responsibility or interest presented itself, he embraced it as an opportunity for personal growth. His love of cooking led him to earn an associate degree in culinary arts. He completed a course at H&R Block and earned a certification in order to prepare his own taxes and help others with theirs. When he assumed responsibility for managing the family’s properties, he earned a California real estate license. In 1990, he proudly completed the Los Angeles Marathon in four hours and 40 minutes.

Jay’s passion was community service. He was a very proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1625. He helped plan the lodge’s community events and was a member of the lodge’s Sherri Chefs, a group that provides food for local philanthropic organizations. He was awarded the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award in 2020.

Jay was preceded in death by his brother Richard and his sister Beverly. He is survived by his sister Margaret, brothers Mark and Paul, stepdaughter Christina Smith, and nephews Darrin Jenkins and Nicholas Jenkins.

A funeral service will be held at Joshua Memorial Park Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster CA 93535 on August 20, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Following the service, all are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life and Luncheon at the Elks Lodge at 240 East Avenue K, Lancaster, CA 93535. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to The General Fund, The Elks Lodge No. 1625, at the above shown address.
