

Lydia Ann Askew Jones was born on October 23, 1946, in New York City to Mckinley Askew and Catherine Hunter. She was the second child and first-born daughter of six children: Mckinley, Lydia, Jacqueline, Joyce, David, and Nichelle Askew.
Lydia attended Benjamin Franklin High School in East Harlem, New York. While in school she worked a variety of jobs, including office work and babysitting. In 1964 she graduated from high school and continued her education at Bronx Community College.
On December 26, 1969, Lydia welcomed her first child, Kelly Lamont Robinson. She worked numerous jobs to provide for her family, and at the age of 29 she moved west to California to begin a new chapter. In 1978, Lydia met Charlie Jones, and together they built a beautiful blended family. Lydia's son Kelly and Charlie's daughter Kimberly quickly became part of one loving household.
From their union, Lydia and Charlie were blessed with twin daughters, Steffany Ann and Tiffany Catherine Jones born November 3, 1982. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children together.
Lydia nurtured a lifelong passion for the beauty industry. she attended Marinello School of Beauty, earned her cosmetology license, and worked in salons throughout the Los Angeles area. Known for her creativity and style, she had a gift for making others feel beautiful- whether through hairstyling or the handmade jewelry she loved to create. After many years in Los Angeles, Lydia and Charlie relocated to the Antelope Valley, where she continued her beauty career at JCPenny Hair Salon. Soon after, Lydia began working for the County of Los Angeles at LAC Challenger Memorial Youth Camp. Dedicated and hardworking, she received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding performance as a Senior Clerical Clerk III.
Lydia faithfully served the county for 15 years, retiring at the age of 69.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lydia's greatest devotion was to her faith and family. She served alongside Charlie, who was a deacon, and she herself taught Sunday School t their local church for over 15 years. Lydia trusted in the Lord with all her heart and lived as a true prayer warrior-steadfast, nurturing, and always encouraging her loved ones to follow Him.
She was also known fora her famous 7-up pound cake and sweet-potato pie, which she baked with love for family gatherings. Lydia delighted in the movies Lady Sings the Blues, and The Color Purple, and she had a lifelong passion for fashion, beauty, and music-but above all,she loved her Heavenly Father.
Lydia's legacy lives on through the family she cherished: her children Kelly Robinson, Kimberly Jones, Staffany Jones, and Tiffany Jones; her beloved grandchildren Chaine Hill, Emma Robinson, Catherine Robinson , and Kelly Robinson Jr. her brother McKinley Ashew and David Askew; and a host of nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.
Lydia Ann Askew Jones was a beautiful, loving , and hardworking woman whose life reflected strength, grace, and unwavering faith. All who knew her were blessed by her kindness and her light, which will remain in our hearts forever. Family that proceeded before Lydia husband Charlie, Will Jones Jr. father Mckinley Askew mother Catherine Askew sisters, Nichelle Askew, Joyce Askew, and Jacqueline Askew.
