Mary was born on May 19, 1934, in Kiowa, Oklahoma, to Myrtle Linsea and Paul Moore. She graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1953. On August 15, 1953, Mary was united in marriage to Andrew Anderson in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. The couple moved to Medicine Lodge and over the next three years Mary gave birth to three daughters, Teresa, Cynthia, and Vicky. She was an excellent seamstress and dressed all three girls alike in outfits that she made for them. The family moved to Anthony, Kansas, and purchased a large two-story house which Mary painted and decorated to make it into a home for the family. In 1962 the family moved to Wasco, California. Mary taught all three girls to sew so they could start making their own clothes. She also worked with the girls in 4-H and Campfire Girls and even accompanied them on overnight campout that involved a gopher that got trapped under a tent of screaming little girls. Andrew and Mary owned a commercial building in Wasco. It comprised of a dry-cleaning hub with a Western Union that Mary managed along with doing alterations, and a record shop managed by her good friend Rose Lawrence. In 1967 the family moved to Lancaster, California. Along with making the house a home, Mary worked at the Dumas clothing factory sewing linings into coats. Later, she got her manicurist license and enjoyed doing manicures. Mary was an active member of Central Christian Church and served greeting fellow worshippers and in the after school program teaching sewing. In the community she was an participating member in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had a group of friends she enjoyed roller skating with and another group of ladies that got together on Mondays for lunch and went on cruises together. Not only was Mary an avid seamstress, making most of her own clothes, she loved cross-stitching and quilting. She always had something in her hands that she was working on. In addition, she enjoyed working in the garden and walking the many little Yorkie dogs that they owned over the years.
