As a young child Oran moved to California with his family. He served in the Army as a young adult and received an honorable discharge. He began his career at the Long Beach Unified School District where he spent twenty plus years working as the Supervisor of Maintenance. Oran was a hard worker who truly enjoyed his job. Oran was also a huge Laker’s fan. Everyone knew the Laker’s were playing when they would hear him shout and cheer. He had many ‘sayings’ and sound effects, which became famous amongst family and friends.
Oran was a great cook and he loved making big meals for his loved ones. Some of his specialties were cooking ox tails and other southern foods and he enjoyed having barbeques and inviting the family over. Oran’s number one passion was fishing. He took his children as well as his grandchildren fishing on a regular basis. He was definitely a family man and he enjoyed the outdoors.
Oran spent the later part of his life reaching out to his children and he did everything he could to make sure they were living a good and happy life. He made sure he called his children as well as his siblings on a weekly basis. He enjoyed going to church and he always kept his faith.
Oran was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers: Donald Eugene Halcromb, Michael Wendell Halcromb and his sister: JoAnn Delores Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories his brothers: Vernon Halcromb of Oregon, Joe Halcromb of Texas, Barrett Halcromb of Georgia, his sisters: Myrna F. Halcromb of California and Vickie Halcromb Mitchell of California. His children Yoranda Said Halcromb of Georgia, Oran Halcromb Jr. of Texas, Kesha Halcromb of Las Vegas, Olynn Halcromb of California and Omar Halcromb of California. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was very close to his extended family and he loved Ronald Washington and Paul Johnson whom loved and accepted as his sons.
Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him will always remember him and he will truly be missed.
We will always hold a special place in our hearts for Oran Carver Halcromb.
