We celebrate the life of Vincent Donald Interrante who passed away on October 31, 2020 in Thousand Oaks, CA at the age of 78. He is survived by his brother, Leonard; his sister, Sue; his daughter, Christina; his sons Robert (Diane), Richard (Anne) and Paul (Candy); and his grandchildren Aiden, David, Marisa, Robyn, Ryan and Tony.
Vincent was born on February 17, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY, to father Leonard Interrante and mother Mildred Esposito. From a young age, Vincent was known for his great sense of humor, athleticism, creativity and skill in art. He grew up in Fontana, CA and graduated from Fontana High School where he was on the track and cross country teams, and contributed his artistic skills as a member of the yearbook staff. Vincent later studied at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, before joining the US Army. While in the Army and serving overseas in Vietnam, Vincent saw a photo of his future wife, Lorraine, through her brother Edward who was also serving at the time. Vincent and Lorraine began corresponding by mail and he used his artistic skills to decorate each envelope with drawings of landscapes and other scenery, gradually changing to images of hearts and flowers as they grew to know and care for each other more deeply though separated by thousands of miles. Vincent married Lorraine in November 1966, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.
Throughout his adult life, Vincent enjoyed many forms of art including photography, painting, lithography and computer graphics. His diverse style ranged from whimsical cartoons to highly detailed fine art. He was a natural comedian who loved to make people laugh, and was known for his impersonations and storytelling. He maintained his relationship with the military through service in the US Navy, and by working over 20 years at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and Edwards Air Force Base in California in various roles as an artist and manager of graphics production. He was an avid runner, participating in road and trail running, marathons, and ultra-marathons. His Catholic faith was a very important part of his life, and he actively participated in various programs and communities within his church including the Knights of Columbus and prison ministry. His greatest joy came from being with his family. He was a dedicated father who enjoyed time with his children, playing football and softball, taking trips together, as well as camping and hiking while participating as a leader in the Boy Scouts.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1pm on Friday, November 20th, 2020 at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Lancaster. For those wishing to send flowers, please send to Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary at 808 East Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93535.
