Randy was born on October 10, 1973 in Skokie, IL to Richard and Joyce (Carter) Watley. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University in 1997 and spent his career in various sales and customer service roles, most recently in Las Vegas where he lived for the past 20 years. Randy never married and had no children, and was known as Uncle Randy to several nieces and nephews as well as the children of his friends. Randy was the beloved brother to surviving sisters Lena Jumper (Shane), Joelle Duke (Brian), and Cheryl Watley. Randy is also survived by his aunt Dorothy Carter, aunt Patricia Kerber, and his uncle Earl Shoemaker, as well as several nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Richard, his mother, Joyce, his grandparents, and his aunt Sybil Cummings.
Randy loved sports and the outdoors, especially baseball, softball, hiking, and running. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, an umpire with the Las Vegas AFA and SSA, and a dedicated member of the Las Vegas Hash House Harriers.
Randy has friends all over the country many of whom started as childhood friends. Randy has been described as funny, kind, supportive, and a great listener. In addition to his human friends, he formed special connections with friends of the canine variety – most notably his very own “Kane”, as well as his roommates’ dogs “Remington”, “Rook”, and “Miller”.
Randy’s life and friendship will be celebrated in the Chicago area on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Salerno’s in Hodgkins, IL from 4pm-7pm. A private celebration will also be held in Las Vegas.
To honor Randy, in lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to your local Boys/Girls Club or youth sports organization. Condolences may be sent in care of his sister Joelle at [email protected] and his sister Lena at [email protected].
