Adele Jones-Graham

Adele Jones-Graham was born October 15, 1923, in Burgaw, North Carolina, the first of three beautiful girls born to Johnny Carr and Elma Johnson. As an adolescent, Adele was baptized and became an active member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. She attended elementary and grammar school in Burgaw, graduating from C.F. Pope High School in the spring of 1941. She married J.C. Jones of San Augustine, Texas in 1942. As An Army wife, Adele travelled throughout Europe and the United States. Ten years into this union their son, Jerome, was born, and shortly thereafter their daughter, Regina. Adele and J.C. remained happily married until his death in 1983. During these years of marriage and motherhood, Adele studied fashion design abroad; earned a certification in Cosmetology; and owned and operated a successful small business. Additionally, she earned a degree in Psychology from Temple University. As a lifelong learner and teacher, she volunteered many hours working with students throughout her life. Her dedication and commitment to education influenced the lives of numerous children. Some of the many joys in Adele’s life included her relationship with God, socializing with family and friends, reading, shopping, and travelling.
In 1989, blessed to have found love again, Adele married Joseph S. Graham of Miami, Florida, her best friend. Joe and Adele established residences in Willingboro, NJ; Wallace, NC, and Las Vegas, NV. With Joe, Adele found fulfillment through greater involvement in community and church activities. She has served in various positions within churches of which she was a member.
Adele was preceded in death by her son Jerome C. Jones, her first husband, J.C. Jones, her sisters Wilma Gray James of Burgaw, NC and Johnnie Mae Nixon also of Burgaw, NC. She is survived by her husband, Joseph S. Graham; daughter, Regina Jones Adams; son-in-law,
Dr. Leary B. Adams, Jr.; three grandsons, Christopher J. Adams, Cory J. Adams, and
Leary B. Adams, III; grand-daughter-in-law, Deandra M. Adams; great-granddaughter,
Jasmine Adams; sisters-in-law, Vera Bluford of San Augustine, TX; Gladys Graham of Fort Knox, VA; Mildred Ricks of Chicago, IL; Geraldine Graham of Miami, FL; brothers-in-law, James Graham of Fort Knox, VA; Otis Ricks of Chicago, IL; and a host of nephews, nieces, friends, and colleagues.
